Has anyone else recieved notification of an aircraft swap due to the new agreement with American Airlines?

I'm booked to travel from LAX to SYD on QF12 in April next year (note the date of my flight is waaaaaay different to whats referenced in the email they sent) and have just been notified (screenshot below) that the aircraft has changed from an A380 to a 747.

Though I know the fitout is basically the same, I do prefer to fly on the A380 so I'm curious as to what my options are? Do you think I'm within my right to ask to change flights to the A380? I'm flexible on flight times.

If I can't, what are the better seats in PE on a 747. And are there less business seats on a 747? And would that affect my upgrade chances do you think?

And finally, does anyone know what the departure time is for the A380 from LAX to SYD is now?

My understanding is that you can ask to change flight/date to retain an A380.

Are you flying on a Tuesday? My understanding is that over the last couple of days they cancelled the 3x weekly QF17/QF18 SYD-LAX flights (originally scheduled as 747 flights) and downgraded QF11 and QF12 on Tuesdays (only) from an A380 to a 747.

Try calling them. I would imagine they would let you switch to another flight.

PE on the refurbished 747s is more or less the same product, though I also would prefer the A380 flights as (a) the aircraft is quieter, (b) PE is in a 2-3-2 configuration (it's 2-4-2 on the 747) and (c) PE is directly over the wing in the 747, hindering the views. The last point makes no difference for an overnight flight though.

You should be fine to change to, say route through MEL to get a 388 ...

Go via MEL.

The PE cabin on the 380 is vastly superior to the 747.

J is the only cabin where, if swapped to a 747, I'd be happy still.

QF being unreliable in offering the 380 on their flagship route has resulted in me switching to the UA 747 for economy TPAC flights unless I'm on QF93/94.

UA don't fly 747s to Australia anymore. It's all 777 and 787.

Bloody autocorrect - I meant 787.

However back in the day I certainly did serve my time on UA 747s TPAC.
