Is there a way of making a multi city booking that shows the Instant Upgrade Option or do you just have to keep booking each segment individually?
If using aa.com.au the select "First" under "Fare Type" down at the bottom. Select "Lowest Fare" on "How would you like to price your trip?"

Flew with AA ORD-NRT-ORD and found the 777 ok. While it doesn't have the same IFE as SQ or QF it is aceptable and sounds like your price is right. Seats are ok and service is ok.
If you purchase your fare online then you should be able to select seats on the AA legs only when you access your booking via aa.com.
What fare class is it booked into? Some AA codes earn no QF points so it may be better going to AA. Some people here swear AA has better earning rates but it is harder to obtain status. Found out what fare code it is then look to the QF earning table: Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions
Yes. AA S class will earn discount economy SCs and 0.5 QFF points per mile flown. The fare code is SLRTIT. So that would be S - considered discount Y by QF. Is that right??? :S
