Can someone clarify the expiry of AA miles for me?

I've just purchased some for the first time and on my account they show as "Miles with Expiration Deferred Through Nov 21, 2013".

Having tried to get my head around the Terms and Conditions, it seems that they don't expire if I have some mileage activity before that time.

Is that right?

If so, can I simply make a QF domestic flight some time before 21 Nov 2013 and allocate the miles to the AA programme to keep these purchased miles active?

Thanks

Basically any earn/burn activity does the trick.

I Stayed at a Hampton Inn last month and credited to AA (100 points[x 2 with the current promo]) simply to keep my 13K going (no HHonors based Airline point earn available for AirNZ or Qantas at Hampton Inns).

So you can't apply your AA number to a QF flight for "earn"?
Serfty's post is regarding a Hampton Inn (Hilton hotel chain) stay and earning FF miles/points for the stay. He could earn AA miles but not QF or NZ points from his tel stay. You can earn AA miles on most QF fares, but not on some Red-E-Deal fares. Check the AAdvantage program rules for which QF fare classes earn AA miles.

Any activity at all will do it. I just exchanged my 500 mile upgrades for points and that reset my expiry from August this year to November next year.
