Just prior to XMAS I rcvd comp Plat Status offer from AA - kinda out of the blue considering my only AA activity in 2018 was 2 x single sector Y flts LAX-RNO and RNO-LAX + redeeming 2 x F awards LHR-HKG on BA.

So I register to take up the offer which expires end May 21019 and which is basically useless to me - EXCEPT - anyways anywhere I can use this to gain status match with any other FF program?

Well - sapphire oneworld status will give you lounge access if flying economy on a oneworld airline such as QF, BA or CX.

As far as status matches go you may get *G from a star alliance airline or elite from skyteam.

As I said AA Plat nigh on useless to me as I wouldn’t be riding any of these carriers and def not in Y

I received this kind of offer too. I transferred miles to AAdvantage in 2018, and redeemed a ton on a QF/JL/CX trip with the wife in J (in a couple of weeks) and two transpac J trips on QF. I flew them a bit in 2016-17, and credited a bunch of business travel to them in 2015. I was Exec Plat for through 2016 on that basis.

I'm inclined to take it up on the off-chance I might do some flying in the next few months (next month's trip is in J, so status uplift won't add much). The twenty extra 500-mile upgrades are a nice sweetener for next time I'm flying around the US.

Does anyone know whether accepting this is likely to prejudice future offers? I seem to recall that specifically a status challenge (like I paid to do in early 2015) rules you out from doing it again for at least several years.
