AA changed flight times, and now connections fail - how to resolve?

I am a WP on a DONE5 that is going to include a flight from BOS-DFW. Based on the time that it was getting into DFW (14:45), I booked a non-refundable N class add on to ABQ (DFW-ABQ, departing 15:40). This satisfied the MCT at DFW, and would have been fine.

Only problem is that my DONE5 has changed - there's an aircraft flight change (AA841 was cancelled and they have substituted a later flight, AA1127, which gets into DFW at 16:40, which is obviously too late. Earlier flights that day have no A class availability (they're all showing A0).

The question is, given it's AA's change, can I call them and convince them to put me on the earlier flight? Or can I convince them to change my non-refundable Q class fare to a later flight?

We have changed to earlier flights when this has happened to us even though apparently no A availability but you have to call.

If an airline does a schedule change that results on a connection no longer meeting the min connect, you are free to change the affected flight. Assuming it is on one ticket.

As suggested above, there may be A available, but just not showing.

Good Luck!

Read the OP, the flight they now miss is on a separate ticket

Thanks everyone. AA841 Dep BOS 11:40 Arr DFW 14:45 was the flight I was on, and it was cancelled (it's also on the DONE5). I have a separate connecting ticket for AA1935 Dep DFW 15:40 Arr ABQ 16:25 (Q class). There is an earlier flight that day (AA1897 Dep BOS 09:50 Arr DFW 13:05), but it has no A class availability. I was hoping tha drron's advice would stand, which that I would be able to move to the more convenient AA1897 flight, and keep my connection, but AA (at least the Australian contact number) wouldn't budge. They checked with support, and they refused to change the flight to the earlier one with no A availability because they claimed they could not reticket it.

Should I just call the AA RTW desk in the USA tomorrow (it's closed tonight as of writing this)?

I would call AA in the USA either late tonight or tomorrow morning. I would present them the booking referneces for both flights and ask them to sort it out. Given the nature of the tickets, its not unrealistic to have two different tickets. And given they are both AA tickets, they should be able to do something. One option may be to re-route you to ABQ via some other port, or to change the DFW-ABQ to a different flight even though the original fare is not flexible.

Try mentioning things like "I booked the DFW-ABQ in good faith based on your published schedule and my DONE5 reservation ..." etc. Good luck!

An add on is not necessarily a separate ticket. You can have an add on to a base fare which can be on the one ticket.

No one is obliged to do anything if the tickets are separate.

Consider the OP has used the word separate ticket, I would assume it is not an added on ticket.

While a DONE5 includes up to 6 sectors within North America, the passenger can "purchase" some additonal sectors in that continent as "add-ons" to the fare at a fixed rate per sector. However, in the case of an AFF member purchasing a DONE5, I expect it was issued using all 16 of the available sectors. Hence why this DFW-ABQ is on a separate ticket as there was likely no opportunity to include it as an add-on to the DONE5 ticket.

So yes its a separate ticket. And yes there is no obligation on AA's part. However, given the circumstances of the change, and being a premium cabin passenger with OneWorld Emerald status, I think its worth call their USA number and asking about available options.

Which is what I'm going to do. I'll be giving them a call tonight at the ATW desk and seeing what I can do. If it has to be the later flight, I'll do it, but I've been running along the lines of what NM has said, mentioning the "in good faith" line. It didn't work with the AA Australian line though.

Called AA ATW desk - they couldn't book specifically the flights I'm wanting, but they have waitlisted me for the earlier flight - hopefully that will come through. Closer to the date, if the waitlist for the earlier BOS-DFW doesn't come through, then I'll have to change the DFW-ABQ flight to a later one (getting in at 6:55pm and missing dinner, but them's the breaks, I guess!).

Sounds like a mission for a lounge AAngel if it can't be rectified via phone. I'm guessing you're flying BA LHR/BOS but are you staying in BOS or flying straight to DFW & ABQ?

Can you pop into an AC on arrival in BOS perhaps?
