Would beta.awardtravelr.com have this availability information?

I'm no Awardtravelr guru at all but there appears to be the oneworld option on the search page, so you could always give it a shot anyway.

I'm not a QFF and realise there's a joining fee (I dont have a WW EDR card) and want to avoid joining up if I can help it.

Is there any free way to check availability short of calling AA? If I can check there is decent availability, Ill buy the points during this promo and book as soon as I know the dates my friends will be there.

Would anyone be so kind as to check for me if they are QFF? I looking for a one-way MEL-HKG-BKK (or alternatively HKT on Dragonair) in J for one (1) pax leaving MEL around 10/10/2103 (Im flexible a few days either side). Ideally the flight that leaves MEL around midnight (assume this is the new J?) to arrive into BKK/HKT late morning.

Sorry - I'm a gun on USDM and LM but this AA thing is still new to me. Would beta.awardtravelr.com have this availability information?

Thanks!

QFF is showing availability on10/10/2013 for CX178 + CX713/755/751. You can also register for awardnexus and have a look for free. If you decide to go the AA miles route you can put an award on hold for 5 days and buy the miles.

you can join AA (for free) and check availability there.

I thought you couldn't check CX availability on AA.com?

ooh! seems not. Although strange cause I booked a couple flights last year CX to QF and I was sure I booked those on line (cause I didn't have any credit card issues). I gues I must have called in.

The other alternative would be to join asia miles. That's also free. I used to use that site to book CX flights through QF back when QF refused to show/allow booking on line for CX.

Thanks. I signed up to Asia Miles and checked - there is availability MEL-HKG-BKK the entire week I'm looking at going but I've been told we're meeting in HKT so I need to get there. Dragonair flies HKG-HKT but there is only availability on the Monday and Tuesday of that week (and the following Sunday and Monday). I'd ideally like to arrive on the Thursday (10/10/13) but dont particularly want to buy a rev Y ticket BKK-HKT and waste extra time and money. Admittedly, CX run a 777 with new J HKG-BKK which is obviously preferable to the KA A321 J HKG-HKT which I understand has no IFE for a reasonably long regional leg (3.5 hours).

I'm still 10 months out from the trip but ready to book now - is it likely KA will release more award seats over the coming months or should I accept thats whats left and either book the direct service on 2 days earlier than I ideally want to go, or the indrect service on the day I want to go?

Anyone?!

The website says bonus points takes 5 days to post. What is the experience of those who have made purchases? I have a booking of hold, and due to travel being less than 14 days away, the hold only lasts 1 day, and can only be renewed 1day each time by calling them.

Took 3 days for me

I made my purchase on 25 Dec (US time) and it was complete within 48 hours.

As others have mentioned the bonus points post in stages, in my transaction it was 1,500 x 3 transactions and and one x 5,500 transaction.

Roll on 2013 for more bargains.

My base points and the promo points were all point into my account within 48hours. Then they were all used up within 48hours!

Just as a data point: base and promo points just posted, all within 12 hours. Impressive.

I am new to AA and was wondering if purchasing points during a 50% promo what is the approximate cost of a return business airfare BNE - BKK.

return BNE-BKK would be 70K AA miles (35k x 2). Taxes are minimal because no fuel surcharges. To buy the miles is around USD1375 (50K plus 25 bonus), plus excise tax (7.5%) plus processing fee of USD50. So around $1528 (usd). You'd have 5k orphan miles left.
