Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If it helps anyone to top off an account this calendar year, you can buy SPG Starpoints at the moment for $28 per 1,000 points (20,000 point cap). These would convert to 25,000 AA points for US$560, which is a little better than buying points directly from AA on Jan 1 assuming there is no new promo. Not great value, but might be useful for someone who needs a few extra points to book the return leg of an award trip before seats disappear.

The 60,000 points have arrived, less than 12 hours after purchase. Like US Airways they said to allow up to 72 hours for the base points, fortunately unlike USDM they didn't take most of that time. Now to booking - only first leg first as the return is beyond 330 days.

Yes! My 20,000 miles have posted within 24 hours of purchase, also. I had already bought 40,000 (plus bonus 15,000) in January. :)

Trying to remember whether I purchased 40,000 miles + 15,000 bonus miles earlier in the year or 40,000 miles + 20,000 bonus miles.

Time to buy the remaining 20,000 miles + 10,000 bonus miles to keep the account ticking over.

So tempting to build up more in the miles piggy bank, USDM, Avianca Lifemes, and this.... Oh decisions decisions...
This is not quite as good value as US DM (viz. using US DM's Buy Miles bonuses only), but as far as oneworld goes, it's good.
.

It looks like SE Asia is reasonable value with AA. Good chance to use CX J on the cheap.

This looks like a great deal for a OW award.

Is there a requirement that your AA account needs to be open for a certain number of days before being eligible for this purchase? I recall a rule like that for the US Airways points purchase so just want to check before taking the plunge.

There doesn't seem to be. No mention of it & buy points page shows the bonus with my new account.

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

Yeah, we're a bit screwed in Perth using AA awards as you either have to fly EK from PER to DXB or EK SIN-DXB unless as you say we fly mostly other airlines than QF... Or we go to the East Coast first...

OTOH the flight availability from SIN/HKG is SO much better... and less $$ or miles
And the flights from SEAsia <> PER are quite a bit less than the same route starting in PER. Though I do wonder what the QF flight schedules will be after Mar 2013 and whether BA will still have sales rights without LHR-SEAsia legs.

Happy wandering

Fred

When I joined I then purchased miles within minutes. Will definitely buy more with this promotion having redeemed a trip in CX F from HKG-JFK this year.

Mrs Paddy & I just topped up with an extra 20,000 miles + 10,000 bonus miles... and got nearly 2,000 QF Points for paying with my Amex... just love those points and the AA Redemption Rates!

(Mrs Paddy was able to score an award on CX to and and from Europe in J for next summer... just 130k AA miles! )

Funny fees?

If I pick 20,000 plus 10,000 bonus it says $550 to buy, but then when I click through it says it will cost $626 on the screen where I enter payment details.

I know it lists a $35 transaction fee, just wondering where the rest of the money is going. Anyone else noticed anything odd like this? How did it work out for you?

7.5% sales tax. (Same as when buying US Dividend Miles)

Has anyone received their bonus points from this promotion yet? T&C states that they will be issued after 5 days from initial purchase.

Looks like you went for the (later) March/April 40,000 miles (with the 15% discount offer) + 12,000 bonus.
So I went for a bit of both. Still looks good to top up the account.

I just used my 90,000 miles to book return business class from MEL-NRT :)

Luckily I already had just over 30,000 sitting in my account from previous purchases so the bonus miles will simply top it back up to where it was.

not sure if it's just me but i just cant seem to find two first or business class redemptions throughout july/august (i know it's summer etc but still) - MEL > LHR .

im reluctant to fork out good money if i cant redeem the tickets :(

I was looking for ONE seat in late may and there was nothing on qantas direct... I managed to find one seat on Cathay via Hong Kong and Dubai (connecting to British airways in Dubai). but overall slim pickings :(

might be other options such as royal Jordanian out of Bangkok etc.

The awards are there but you have to be a bit more imaginative with your search. Try a multi-city search and be prepared to overnight in HKG/BKK/NRT. It could also mean a trip via AMM/FRA or even MXP. There are also JL awards which can be seen on Awardnexus (or by Joining JAL Mileage Bank).

Pretty poor availability while the EK tie up is being processed/ approved, I suspect that will change once the green light is given to some extent, but anything the goodies do require work/ patience.
