A380 in Y - best seats (80A/80K/71D/50C etc.)

Hubby and I flew to LA on the 23rd November in seats 80A /B. Hubby's well over 6 foot and so got 80A. He spread out quite comfortably - even managed a decent sleep (I hated him the entire flight due to being in 80B LOL). It was definitely worth purchasing ahead of time (for only $20 extra). I could swing my legs over to his side for a while but the person in front of me had theie seat down so low they were brushing my knees, so after a while it made it impossible for me to take advantage of his seat. It made getting up easier though as I only had to breeze past him, plenty of room to get up and stretch.

We had the same deal on the way back (except it was 80K / J). Well worth it!!

edit: nvm just realised there's no 80D. I guess one of my parents will have to cramp it in 80B.

HTML:
<strike>I've got 80A/B/C in July LAX-SYD and was wondering if it would be better to go an empty seat selection in B. I'm travelling with my parents and was thinking that if someone did end up in 80B for some reason we could just ask them to swap into 80D which would probably be a better deal for them.</strike>

I know all about 80A&K & 71D but my question is: has anyone tried 70E?

I was giving some ideas to a friend and the question on 70E came up.

OK, I realise it won't have extra legroom but for a short person who is no so concerned about legroom but who does not want to be stepping over (or be stepped over too much), does 70E offer some attraction given that it's not on the aisle?

I've done quite a few stints in 71D and from my observation 70E seems to be a bit skinnier than a normal seat. Typically 71D makes sure they "own" that extra space, so 70E doesn't offer much advantage over any other aisle seat. It's probably a little less claustrophobic as you have less people in close proximity to you, but I don't see it as a huge advantage. You'll be stepping over 71D's legs most of the time.

The 3 seats in row 70 are a little narrower. While the person in 70F are more likely to go to the aisle on the right side, it's not a guarantee. I would think of it as the middle set of three seats on a 777.

QF - Gold

Booked 5 seats in Y to LHR for September 2014. Used most of points as I suspect chance of scoring 5 upgrades was nil and there were non upgradable sale fares.

Have selected 80 A,B, C and 80K, J both directions. Travelling with partner and three teenagers. Hopefully 80I will be empty and we could be in for a reasonable long haul.

Welcome to AFF. :D

I hope you enjoy your flights, not the is a tray table in the arm rests between 80A/B and 80 J/K, although this should not be an issue.

Even it 80H does get occupied, the 80J occupant can exit out and a little to the side in front of 80K.

Enjoy.

Hi all, new to AFF
Flying to LHR via DXB in Sept 14
Currently have 35D selected for outbound and 48A for rtn, but have just seen 80A come up.
Would be interested in views on 80A vs 35D.
From reviews although upper deck is good, 35D sounds like it could be average seat with people tripping on way to toilet and proximity to toilet. 80A downstairs but good leg room - near children bassinets?
Any views appreciated
Think happy w 48A on way back from what i can see in reviews
Thx

35D vs 80A

No contest IMO

80A wins hands down.

More overhead space, no tripping on your toes, close (but not too close) to loo

My 2c

Many thanks, appreciate your views
Decided to go w 80A - 35D seemed to get poor ratings
Does 80A have a foot rest etc? Had read somewhere it didn't...not that that is a big issue

No foot rest at 80A, as there is no seat in front. It really is a great seat, just dont expect to get of the aircraft in a hurry.
It is certainly my preferred Y seat.

Have sat in both 80A & 80K. In fact just returned a week ago sitting in 80K.
No footrest but such an easy seat to get in and out of. Sometimes have to watch row 79 people trying to claim the space beside their seat for their belongings.
But I soon stretched out my legs and claimed the space for my own.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where to find which aircraft fly on certain routes? My 6'5" brother is planning a trip to the UK next year, and I've promised to find out via this site the best seats for him (in Y) No bookings have been made and he'll be going through a TA. It will be a matter of him choosing the best deal/airline as price point is critical, then I'm hoping I can guide him to the most comfortable seats for his height.

I sat in 80K on QF128 the other day and while the added room and isle/window access, I found it a nuisance having to store my bag in the overhead lockers. But my biggest gripe was not being able to watch TV during the landing and takeoff as you have to fold the TV away. The FA sits right in front of you (looking right at you) which I found a little unsettling too.

Only need to store the bag for take-off / landing, same as an exit row in that regard.

Just a quick question - I have 80J and 80K and also 80A and 80C (hopeful light load and B is vacant) - can 80J and 80C put bags under the seat in front? if so I will pack everything important into 1 bag a

There's no reason why not.

You definitely can.
