MEL/LAX - October 14
LAX/LAS - October 16
LAS/BKK - October 21
BKK/MEL - October 25

Can anyone suggest some good flight combinations? My obvious choice MEL/LAX and BKK/MEL would be QF, but am open to suggestions on NZ and VA

I am also budget constrained :( so paid J, is out, however Y bucket fares are in.

Thanks in advance

If budget constrained would a circle Pacific fare be in order-your route comes in just under 22000 miles.
Could use JAL or CX then across north pacific.

just a very quick (and not so cheap) idea to keep it OW at AUD3369...

1 QF 093 B 14OCT 5 MELLAX HK1 1035 0655 388 E 0
2 QF3155 B 14OCT 5 LAXLAS HK1 1725 1835 738 E 0
3 BA 274 B 21OCT 5 LASLHR HK1 2045 1430+1 744 E 0
4 BA 009 N 22OCT 6 LHRBKK HK1 2200 1515+1 744 E 0
5 QF 002 N 25OCT 2 BKKSYD HK1 1710 0615+1 744 E 0
6 QF 413 N 26OCT 3 SYDMEL HK1 0745 0920 763 E 0

Agree with ozmille and drron as good options, but also consider if stopping in lax then ground transport to/from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

Other options would be "open jaw" on QF into HKG and out of BKK and then buy HKG-LAS-HKG thorugh CX, with a ow HKG-BKK with whomever (? TG/CX whoever is cheaper).

TG BKK-LAX-BKK is ~ $1600 for your dates, add JQ *C MEL-BKK-MEL or QF via SYD (or in fact, TG). Add a cheapie (Southwest) LAX-LAS-LAX or drive.

LAX-xPHX-LAS vv in First Class on US can earn 240 SP's and costs USD700.

Just to clarify, my economy fares can be Y bucket. The budget constraint is no J :(

I also want to only fly airlines I have status on, i.e. NZ, QF or Virgin.

Cheers

Having more of a look - you'll need to be more specific about budget and compromise of time vs cost. How fixed are the dates, how far around are you prepared to travel, or how upwards is the budget.

Working into/out of LAX (more options):

Cheapest I can find is $1700 ticketed by China Southern, heavily restricted, multiple transits.

Fastest / easiest is around $6k (ticketed through TG).

EK are somewhere in the middle, but you end up via DXB.....

Note that on QF you can often find R class fares for about the same (and sometimes less) than a Y fare. You may also be able to book as a K or B fare and possibly upgrade the longhaul's to R fare for about the same as a Y trip. I am currently on a BLFF1A fare with one leg upgraded to R class. There was no B or even Y available on the flight, but plenty of R available. A week later the flight is 0 in all classes.
