I really wish QF Silver would provide free luggage with jetstar, like Virgin does. Would make it a much better deal.

A lot of people think any form of FF recognition at JQ would be a good thing, but there is next to none.

If you need a cheeky - less than 100SC's - to get you to the next level and were prepared for a couple of quick and quite possible dirty trips, it maybe the answer.

The 702 Airport bus delivers me to the terminal door at OOL. About the only advantage of flying in and out of OOL!

Also look and compare the economy with discount econpmy - double the SC and FF points.

The Jetstar Friday Feeding Frenzy is off and running again. MEL - NTL $19. Only 200 seats (actually 199, just bought mine). By the time you pay the SC surcharge and CC fee it worked out at $88 return. Still less than $5 / SC which is pretty good for a quicky!

Now I just have to find something to do in Newcastle for 4 hours on 16/5...

I'd rather grab a return to Auckland on LAN. The price fluctuates, but I did a trip for $800 last year (November) and earned 160 status credits in the process. I don't want to sound like a snob, but I'm not so desperate for status that I could be bothered to sit on Jetstar for all that time.

Not great value, you can get slightly cheaper with QF which includes a QP at every stop ex BNE.

• you don't risk missed connections
• you're not travelling with checked bags that may not make the connection
• you're not travelling with a partner who doesn't understand your obsession
• you're not allergic to hot nuts or fresh-baked cookies

RE: Cheap parking at MEL for cheap day trips.

I sometimes park at one of the fast food restaurants in Mickleham Road (usually the Mc Donald's near the Tullamarine Freeway) and get the 901 bus from there to the airport. Of course this is not good if you don't have the time to muck around, but for a cheap day trip on Jetstar this seems perfect. The bus is effectively free if you already have a weekly/monthly/yearly Metcard or myki pass, but only costs the cost of a zone 2 daily or weekend saver if you don't. Often the driver will just wave you on and not bother about tickets as it's at the end of the route.

In the past I've also used the Coolaroo station car park, but the bus takes a lot longer from there. You could park in Broadmeadows too, but I wouldn't recommend that.

The other downside is that the airport bus stop is all the way down past T4 outside the freight terminals, so it's a bit of a hike from the main terminal especially if flying QF or JQ.
