Hi @throwaway59328905,

It really depends on what you are doing. I would steer clear of a VPS if you are doing anything privacy related. I can't recommend a VPS provider as we use our own hardware ( colocation ). However, www.instantdedicated.com run a very, very good business but only offer dedicated servers. You can pick something small up for around 50 Euro per month.

All VPSs have bandwidth limitations. They may offer "unlimited" data transfer, but your bandwidth is heavily reduced. Don't forget, you are sharing it with everyone else.

How many ports do you need and how much monthly data-transfer would you estimate you will be consuming?

Regards,
Peter @ Oeck.
Ah, I currently know about njal.la and bahnhof, both are very secure with privacy but have low bandwidth or low speeds.

Well i'm hosting a lot of services so im thinking maybe 25-30 ports. And right now i wouldn't think a lot of data but around 2tb transfer suits me enough i think.

Hi @throwaway59328905,

Yeah, a VPS will probably be okay for 2TB per month.

Also like @Guvner said, a VPN isn't really good for anonymity. It can be used of anonymity but it relies almost 100% on the user to never slip up ( regardless of what you may have heard ).

Peter @ Oeck.

If you think a VPN provides anonymity you might want to do some research. Just a suggestion.
I'd like to think i know what i'm doing :) but thank you for the advice! I may have worded some stuff incorrectly but i do not really have to explain my reasoning to you :)

I didn’t ask you to explain. I just answered your questions and provided an opinion. Your choice as to what to do with it.

The questions weren't for you though.. And i explained myself in the first place otherwise i would have to keep hearing your opinion :)

No worries. I’d be happy to help you but it seems it’s a waste of time and effort. Sounds like your on top of it. Hope it all works out.

Hey, really didn't mean to make anyone angry on this thread, just didn't really like how it felt like you were judging my choices.

Not angry, just bemused. I wish you well. One of the keys to providing a solution is to understand the problem. You see that as judgement. So be it. If you don’t want alternative opinions try private messaging instead of posting on a public forum. Again, just a suggestion.

Hi everyone,

I thought I would share a bit of good news this morning. Cameron was up until very late last night finishing up a project he has been working on.

Whenever we get requests for new channels to be unblocked, or we add proxy regions to our network we need to perform a network update. This requires us to reboot our servers in order for the new proxies and channels to be added to our network. What we ( generally ) end up doing is holding off on the proxy and channel updates until a security update is required so we keep the maintenance downtime and frequency as low as possible. However, this isn't always the case.

Well, we don't need to do that anymore! We can now add channels and proxy regions without the need of rebooting our network! This will allow us to get new channels and regions out much faster and is generally just really cool! The only scheduled downtime moving forward will be for security updates and anything else that is not unblocking related!

If anyone has any requests for channels and services to be unblocked, please let us know!

Regards,
Peter @ Oeck.
