Ok, what I am about to tell ya’ll is going to scare the bejesus out of the lot of you.
This is an important lesson and one not to be forgotten.
Qantas Club wastes crown lager! :-|

Sitting here a t the QC in SYD awaiting a late flight (familiar story eh?) I can’t help but notice this injustice being dealt to all us “CLD’s” (crown lager drinkers) – the glasses have been changed and a whole bottle no longer fits into the new glass!

This is a catastrophe

This is an injustice

This is (wait for it…) un-Australian!

Me being me, I have conducted an in-depth and accurate analysis of the situation (over the last 35 minutes) and well, it scares me. I have come to the following conclusions:

Number of people in QC Sydney presently: 365
Number of crown lager drinkers – 32% (116.8 people – that’s 116 normal people and 1 dwarf)
Bottle size: 375ml
Wastage: 15% (grrrrrrrr!) – 56.25 ml per bottle (a disgrace!)
That’s 6.570L of wasted crown lager! OH MY GOD! WHAT HAS IT COME TO!!!
That is… 17.52 bottles – and that is only one serve of people!!!
On average (again concluded from my studies) – on average (and 97.342% of all statistics are made up on the spot) everyone will have 3 crown lagers while they are here… that’s 52.56 wasted bottles of crown lager every single group sitting.

But wait – it gets WORSE!!!! :!:

There’s more than one QC in the country serving crown lager – that’s a potential wastage of crown lager no longer thought of in bottles but in ocean going tankers! Its got to stop!
If this hits the news media there will be mass hysteria, looting and other things…

A national disgrace

CLD's of the world unite! We need to halt this wastage. We need to storm the beaches. We need to....

That is very funny but I understand the seriousness of your research.

Crown Lager should not be wasted....

Don't worry, Crown Lager will probably go to a 330ml bottle soon anyway. Most other beers are on the transgression path...

As a spokesman for Cascade said when they reduced the size... Value for lager cascades | The Courier-Mail

""Beer fans found the old bottle clunky and hard to grasp,'' (Ben Summons) said"

Actually I have very rarely had a crownie at any QP and had the person serving actually pour out the whole contents into the glass anyway - they are usually in such a hurry they can't be bothered to wait for that final cm of fluid to jump from bottle to glass...

The bottle is the best place for Crown Larger. Best if all the content remain in the bottle and the lid remains sealed. Then select a decent beer :p .

I'll make sure I keep up the stocks of xx_X Gold for you and NM when you come round home for a BBQ

Oh yeah, still in the QC at SYD.....

I am now on a personal mission to increase the national average of crown lager consumed in a QC in any one sitting.....

munitalP,

You missed my point. I'm on your side with this one :!:

Sorry dude!

NM - the xx_X Gold is for you! Not for Straitman, we are going to enjoy a cold crownie off ice at the BBQ...

My keyboard seems to be running out of ink...

Hmmm, the only xx_X I can remember consuming in the last 10 years is the xx_X Off-The-Wood at the Breaky Creek Hotel.

The most common Aussie beers in my fridge come from Tasmania or South Australia. Three of us polished off quite a few Coopers at SYD earlier in the week.

Thanks for the warning. I'll remember to bring my own whiskey  .

And VB!!!

One thing i have noticed - and dont get me wrong, the only other beer in the fridge can be measured in bottles not pallets like CL. Has CL gone down in taste in recent times? Now, i am a seasoned CL drinker of around-about 15 years (legally anyways!) and i think it has gone down in gone down in quality over the last couple of years (most recently in the last few months when it has been contiually on sale (co-incidence - I THINK NOT!!!))

Now i know i'm going to get flamed by various people but the only critiscism i will take on board will be those who aren't beer drinkers...

Having said that i have been persuaded to give my taste buds a trial of Martini's. All kinds of them!. It started back in November when i was cruising the Greek Riviera(sp) and not really caring how i woke up feeling - unfortunately back to reality and it matters but still my evil twin doesnt care.

Cool post ... ;)

I was weaned on VB and Crownies and I don't think the crownie taste has changed much over the last few years; 'tis more like our palates have been re-educamated by the comsumption of other, perhaps more, interesting offerings.

I learned to appreciate HP's in the QPs of OZ - now they have removed it, I have to put up with the next best thing - "Bluetounge".

Failing that, 'tis back to the crownies (unless there's a Cooper's available :) ).

I think Crown Lager has gone down in taste recently. Most beers tend to go through that type of phase when the manufacturers start experimenting with alcohol content to reduce the excise paid.

How many Martinis did you have? As far as I know there is no such thing as a Greek Riviera although there is the French variety. The closest you will get to a Riviera in Greece is Vouliagmeni in Athens where the locals like to think they live in the Riviera. Not much cruising to be done there unless you want cruise up and down the Attica coast with views of Athens.

When I saw the title I'd thought that something really bad has happened.

And it has!

For those who care - 22.746% of you (see earlier post about stats), it is 12.10AM and my driver has dropped me home. Excluding a quick run through for a 4 pack of wild turkey and coke, we had a fast drive home.

I can happily say that between my last post, the CSA on the very late 463 and the QC, I have had a success in increasing the average number of crownies consumed during 1 visit to 3.8 from 3.0. This is a remarkable feat for a single person and please send cards, gifts, certificates and cheques to my PO Box

I do believe it's time for bed.

It has always surprised me why Qantas does not serve beer off the tap.

1. It generally tastes better than the bottled variety
2. It is cheaper
3. It's quicker to pour than going to a fridge, opening a bottle and pouring
4. It's easy to increase the number of beers available without worrying about fridge space.

Even those new spirit guns (like the post mix version) would speed them up a bit. I first saw them in use at Coogee Bay Hotel a few months ago.

***GREEK RIVIERA REAL ESTATE****

I have always been concerned about the CL process in the QP. I have always eyed the bottle suspiciously wondering whether I was being gypped for the last skerrick in the bottom...

They do in the ADL QP unless I've imagined it :)
