Great report and photos guys! You're all very lucky to get pulled along for the trip and it sounds like you had a blast (as well as demolishing some hotel liquor stocks).

So. Basically....... I got Carrie Bickmore to take our pictures with 3 different cameras without knowing who she was.

She was very cool about it and I ended up spending most of my evening with her and her partner and Chris Brown and his friend. A fun time was had by all and I've been invited to her show and promised that there will be Lagavulin.

She and Chris also took heaps of pics with their cameras and they are going to email them to me.

Pretty sure I got LW and Markis10 in some of them.

I see a critical problem with this photo...

Markis10's glass is empty!

Bugger, home now, time for a diet, an alcohol free month and to write a comprehensive trip report, have 700 photos .

For those wondering given earlier reports that you don't board the aircraft from the lounge in DXB, this is incorrect, it's a very straightforward process from the lounge, lift down then out door onto aerobridge.

So absolutely no queuing with the proles then?

The use of an elevator means you don't board the aircraft from the lounge.

As I stated clearly in another thread, it is a vastly different situation from the BA F lounge at SFO where you actualy exit the lounge, immediately have your boarding pass scanned and you're on the aerobridge.

Dubai's 'board from the lounge' is almost no different to 'board from the lounge' in Sydney T2: one requires an elevator; the other a travellator. In both cases you are required to exit the lounge and then make your way to the aerobridge. In Dubai, it's simply a shorter process where your pass is scanned before you leave the lounge.

So absolutely no queuing with the proles then?

You join all the other passengers (albeit in a dedicated line) before boarding the aircraft. Although your boarding pass is scanned as you leave the lounge, you do not exit the lounge and board the plane in one simply process.

Congratulations on a great TR and I'm looking forward to more photos.

For those listening to radio in Melbourne this morning c0815, there was discussion of the QF DXB event and some of the "celebs" involved, and that Kerrie-Ann K was up on stage singing whilst somewhat "refreshed". And comments around the appropriateness of that in the setting.

No mention of AFF's three muskateers though...... ;)

Sorry Danger, you did not seem experience what we did, where there was no joining the other passenger at the gate, we went down the elevator, door opened and we walked two metres to the aerobridge. I have no idea what the gate looks like, we were no where near it. The elevator is necessary as the F lounge is one floor up and the j lounge two floors, boarding direct from the lounge is very much what it is as far as I am concerned.

Okay. It sounds like a slightly different experience to mine.

However, I would still argue that having to use an elevator after exiting the lounge but before boarding does not make 'boarding from the lounge'. I'm happy to be labelled pedantic on that but firmly believe that the Emirates's claim that the lounges allow direct boarding is drawing a very long bow.

Possibly a long bow....... But a very short walk!

I found the whole process very easy and I expect it to get even better as the ground staff become more familiar with things.

There's nothing wrong with being pedantic BTW. I think I may be as well. ;)

Well...... The first thing Markis10 and Lindsay Wilson did was trick me into flying on her in the first place!!

Apparently the look of shock on my face when they told me was priceless.

I told you she is a lemon. :(

And I thought I read that you would never fly on her after the "incident" (we must never talk of "The Incident")

But it looks like you all had a fun time. Me wonders if Lindsay copped any fallout for leaving the family all alone over Easter though.

Great TR

Lindsay can advise you on the retail scene in Dubai with regards nice jewellery!

I was not told until I was on the plane. Extra Champagne was urgently requested and supplied!

Honestly..... If I had been told prior to boarding..... I may not have got on.

The last thing I wanted to do though was to make a big fuss after I found out. I was a guest of Qantas and there was no way I wanted to in any way, do anything which may have made me appear ungrateful.

So what if you are in the F Lounge with a Guest (not in J or F) how do they board?

So what if you are in the F Lounge with a Guest (not in J or F) how do they board?

Same as we did, we were all in PE ( at least for the start of the flight). The escalator opens and you have two aerobridges, on up one down.

So what if you are in the F Lounge with a Guest (not in J or F) how do they board?

The lift would take them to the appropriate level which is clearly shown. So, if you were in F and your guest Y on the lower deck, you would exit the lift on the same level but use the correct entrance.

If your guest was in J, PE or Upper Deck Y. They would exit the lift on the top level with one entrance door.

I hope that is clear.

Where was this photo taken? 'Cos I see alcohol being consumed in a "public space".... unless it is in a hotel, no one's around or they have a super-duper liquor permit... :)

Just kidding - I'm sure it was all kosher... err, I mean, all fine.

Great TR - I'm sure Lindsay will have a fair few photos as well, some commentary... and a whole lot of brownie points now exhausted! :D

I checked and I took a total of 11 photo's during the trip.

Markis10 and LW probably took 100 during our taxi to the runway!! ;)

I must try and do better. At the Paris Air Show..... Apparently the Airbus VIP Pavilion is THE place to be. And not just for the catering!!

***Must take photos***

I know you were kidding but it was not a public place, it was the Emirates owned resort called Al Maha, rooms start at $1700 a night and its land which is a conservation reserve cover 5% of Dubai's total land mass.
