The time has almost come for this year’s DONE5. Come Saturday morning I'm out of PER for 10 weeks mixing it up across the globe.

The main targets when planning the trip were: Bolivia, Brazil (in particular the Pantanal – hoping to spot a (non-automotive) jaguar or two - and Iguassu Falls), Costa Rica, national parks in the Dakotas in LOTFAP and Moscow-St Petersburg in Russia. I also wanted to fly QF10 from LHR back to Australia to try the new direct service.

I’m currently sitting on zero SC and points for my current FF year which ends 31 August. Pfft – WP coming up again. Squiggles will be in the bag by Sunday; SCs by late August.

The DONE5 provided the framework and 10 other positioning (using my Amex Ultimate flight credit to position to SYD via MEL & BNE (with UPGs)) or el-cheapo short flights were supplements to get to and from some places; 26 flights in total.

Here’s the routing, with non-DONE5 flights in brackets: [PER-MEL-BNE-]SYD-SCL-LIM[-LPB-LIM]-GRU[CGB-GRU-IGU-GRU]-DFW-SJO-PHX-DEN-MIA-JFK-LAX-DOH-DME[LED-DME]-DOH-LHR-MEL-PER.

Moscow to St Petersburg is on land but flying back LED-DME. Total distance 61,500 miles.

Bolivia, the Pantanal, Costa Rica and Russia are tours. The additional flight in Bolivia is part of the tour:

As usual, I won’t post much to this thread en route as remote locations, taking most photos on my camera and only travelling with an iPhone and iPad limits photo-handling, size-pruning, live posting and keeping in sequence.

I did that exact Bolivia tour back in 2013! And a similar one to Costa Rica in 2016. Enjoy.

Excuse my ignorance but you can tell me what a DONE5 is - assuming a particular type of RTW deal?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Tagging along - as long as I'm in a J seat not too fussed where. I do enjoy your TR @JohnM and admire your stamina

Going back to our earlier discussion, it appears that Asia is being counted as a continent, notwithstanding its not even transited?

Well, maybe... I'm calling it a DONE5 because that's what it is 'supposed' to be according to the rules. But there was a significant element of it that seemed more like a DONE4. I think that's all that ought to be said...

5J, and I will not swap

I'm in 5B SYD-SCL - I'll wave. Funnily enough, it's my first time back there, given my predilection for 1A (where I've had a shadow quite often). I thought I'd give 5 a try this time. I hope I don't regret not having my back to everyone :D:p.
