A gap in my education here. How do I do this?

There's no need to take MH for the second leg - UL has a combo fare with QF. It's around $100 more than MH and has a transit in singapore for ~90 mins.

I was interested until I read the 8hr layover in KUL but I realise the world is full of compromise

That was to avoid the 1am flight on an A320

Google didn't give me that option but I'd probably pay the extra for the SCs

Woot - I am done and dusted!

This is how it panned out.

Original:
Trip over using points - ADL - MEL - DXB (all on Q J) - DOH - Stockholm (on Qatar J) and yes, tickets all issued.

12 night cruise of the Baltics ends in Amsterdam. A few days in Amsterdam (Tallin, Copenhagen, Oslo, St Petersburg, Warnemunde, and Helsinki)

To be done
Amsterdam to LHR - an hourish flight - not booked yet.

Done and Dusted
LHR to Colombo on UL in J - direct on 10.5 hour flight dep at 21.30 in flat bed 180 recline seats - 150K points and $450 - A330 and both single window seats so perfect for overnight flight.

A few days in Colombo/Kandy etc

Then a revenue flight Colombo - Adelaide in J - Colombo to HK (refuel in BK) and seats side by side in a day flight; then switch to Cathay J and fully flat window seats for overnight flight to Adelaide for around $2600 AUD total.

So very happy with this. Thankyou to everyone for their ideas - exactly what I needed.

Now, WHICH LOUNGES!!! WP and SG in J.

AMS-LON is cheap and easy to book separately, there's tons of flights.

You've booked now but I was going to suggest booking a return and using the ex-Aus leg as the stepping stone for the next trip!

Looks like you have indeed got it sorted Pushka. As far as lounges in HKG, as you don't have much time I wouldn't bother with the QF lounge. Depending on your departure gate, I would suggest either the Wing or Pier CX F lounge.

For those less informed people reading the thread, the reason for the return ticket is that it will be A LOT CHEAPER. And the beaches near the CMB airport are nice.

Happy wandering
