Yes Dame. The QM2. I'd asked Dame older (love_the_life) if we should do this cruise a few months ago. It's a little strange.

Having such a large number of passengers creates some traffic management.

Nice spot for breakfast.

Cute pop up market.

Presumably the pop up market is there to capture the QM2 trade. And why wouldn't stallholders do that? Though it is Sunday so maybe a regular thing? Anything good to buy Pushka?

The pop up market was nice but nothing bought. Started sneezing near the party cakes so moved away then realised they were soaps and I was sneezing because of them.

Hururu falls which would look fantastic in the wet season

Mr P tried to convince me this was a kiwi.

It was the hairiest chook ever. Even hairy feet.

But I know this is a kiwi. ;)

Its 4pm and QM2 sailaway is at 6pm. Buses going past our balcony are packed. Been a nice day after their major itinerary change because of the cyclone.

In Paihi the cyclone raised the waves to above the road. Thats about 5 metres.

Then off to KiriKiri. Some beautiful views.

...
Kiri Kiri?

Oh, thit's hiw the lecils say eht! More like Kirri Kirri realy ... :p

It's Kerikeri, airport code KKE ...
You're correct. It was the capital. It was also once known as the hell hole of the Pacific. Full of pirates brigands and just plain nasty people.
Russell ( and the BOI in general) is my traditional family stomping ground.
My Grandfather was the vicar of Russell for a time. The old church still has AFAIK musket holes from the Maori wars.
My other grandfather was born a few miles down the road in Whakapara. ( pronounced "Foka para") Not far from hukerenui.
My uncle until recently was farming in pakaraka. Which is not far from moewera.
One of my earliest memories was the time between the Rome and Tokyo Olympic Games. One Peter Snell was doing distance training on the road from Russell to Rawhiti. My brothers , cousins and I ran with him two days running. He had to run through my uncles Farm. He went on to win a total of 3 Olympic Gold medals all up.
Facinating!

In Late may, about 50 FTer's are descending on the area: OzFest #12: "Bay Of Islands" New Zealand - Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-25, 2015

Facinating!

It's how googlemaps lady was saying it. :D. We deliberately kept driving off course to get her to keep repeating it.

Fush and chups for tea. Or maybe some puzza.

and when does the work start. Not much of it going on up until now by the look of it. Although I've been to NZ quite a few times, I have never managed to get to the BOI so am enjoying the pics.

It would. It had been a long day starting with 6am Vintage Moet. :p. Flight. Ending with a four hour drive in heavy traffic, dirty car windscreen (i think they'd waxed it so it was blurry) and drizzling rain. Maccas for "dinner". Lucky the bottle shop was open. :p.

Woke up this morning to Bay of Islands.

No wonder the kiwis are good at water sports.
excellent, there is a large group of us heading there in May, so I'll pay close attention
