A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

No, you can't

Bugger - I have an award booked already and now realise I need to spend a week in Melbourne

Was trying to find a way to a) avoid the change fee and b) avoid two awards

Think i'll just bust the award and use it from Mel to Per and then sort out something cheap and nasty from HBA to Mel

Had a very frustrating day and half trying to book an award on line. Gave up and had a US based agent walk go through it and say yes it is all there and book it on line. Whilst she waited, I still couldn't get the website to work and I read out every error. She said about 25 times that if she did it, she'd have to charge me. I said 26 times that she can see that it will not allow itself to be booked on line. She went off to ask a manager and came back and said yes she'd book/hold it and waive the fee. Total time on phone for that circus, another 50 mins.

Two days later I get the Fiji call centre when I went to pay and all was fine until she said she had to charge the assistance fee, I said I couldn't believe it as the the supervisor had waived the fee. She said, Oh OK, no problem. She was so much more sensible.

IF I were ever to feel tempted to deal with AA again, and I doubt that I will as their website is a pain in A. I'd be sure to get the Fiji centre if possible.

Your existing booking was priced as two awards, yeah (HBA-MEL and MEL-PER)?

those 2 tickets i mentioned the other night will release from hold sunday at midnight 5/10 and 17/10 SYD-DFW F 1 pax. hopefully someone can use them (if they go back into inventory)

Amateur question, but is it possible to make a redemption with a 2 day stopover by booking over the phone? Say in HKG while on the way to the UK. I think the answer would be no but thought it was worth checking.

Stopovers aren't allowed on single AA awards. Max you can stay is 23hrs59mins. So you could build an overnight into your HKG stay, but anything longer will be two awards (which can still be on the same ticket, but will be priced as separate legs)

I have been searching for a 1 way J award to USA for Feb 2018 for a while now but nothing shows up, is there a trick to this ?.
Have found Y milesaver awards but always says J is unavailable.
Is there a particular time of year when there are more milesaver awards available ?.

It's pretty much sold out! You can use the 'full calendar' function to get an idea... but aside from a few seats at the end of Nov there's nothing after that.

You can look for QF flights via the QFFF site and book those. Or book CX or JL - but the latter will be two awards rather than one. Oh - there is Fiji Airways as an option if you can be bothered with that (or find space).

I can see QF awards in FEB, do I have to use the AA call center for those ?.

They should be bookable on line... although beware of the release dates. I think QF releases seats 353 days in advance, but AA only opens up their calendar 331 days before? I don't book awards at the threshold so I don't have much experience.

used BA to try find 2x F LHR-DOH-BKK flights. Cant seem to find any for the whole month of August. Even split it by sectors and still doesnt work.

Am i doing something wrong? Or is there basically no availability?

Always hard to find unless you have airline status, try Award Nexus and BA or JL, we get fed up looking for J award seats on OneWorld airlines especially Qantas, so buy AS (Alaska Airlines) miles and go via HKG (stop) then direct to Europe or a multitude of US cites with stacks availability and miss awful LAX.

Next trip planning on using AS miles CNS/HKG stop BOS then cruise to Montreal then 2 weeks later depart using QF Points on QF - SFO/SYD/CNS (only found PE so far) so essentially a Circle Pacific.

My suggestion would be to try and fly BA in club world to CDG then either QR or CX in F to BKK via DOH or HKG

My problem is that I have pile of miles due to expire at the end of July and I have to use or add to them. I can't see myself using any by then so I think I'll have to buy some more.

Is there a page that compares the current offer due to expire on April 13 with previous offers over time?
