A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

SWP to US is via the Pacific only, if you want to price it as one award.

You could go EY via AUH but have it priced as two awards. Don't know what their J is like, but the F apartment is the best F hard product currently available.

Thanks I don't have enough points for F but J should work.

Ironically I'm using QF points one way and AA the other. I've found a QF J seat from MEL-JFK but i can't see it in Expert Flyer or AA. If I could book that with my AA points I can do CX with my Qantas points.

I think both QFF and AA are having website problems at the moment. QF isn't showing some AA flights and AA is showing phantom J awards on April 11 and 14 which you can't book.

I am holding a o/way to ANC via SEA. I'd like to end the flight in SEA. Is the only way to do that go HLO and then just tell them in SEA? Or can I organise it w' AA beforehand?

I guess a stopover for a few days on the way back needs to be booked at 2 separate awards still?

This is another example of not all awards being available to all airlines. I have repeatedly seen some QF awards available only to QF flyers. Despite popular believe, I believe this is the norm.

I haven't been to the US for about 18 months, but from memory you'll have to clear custom at the point of entry into the country. That means even though your luggage might be tagged to the final destination, you will have to collect it at the port of entry, clear custom, and re-check it again. If this is indeed still the case, you can just collect your luggage at SEA and not check it in to ANC.

Hossein_au, I should've mentioned I clear immigration in LAX first. Do you think AA might be talked into retagging to SEA only? Also, any thoughts on a stopover in HKG on SEA-HKG-MEL?

AA agent I called earlier said I could do a stopover on a multi award bkg and to do it on the website. Making no progress anyway as the site keeps says I have not entered a valid state / province for my address, but can't find anywhere to put that in 'My Account'. Sorry, not sure what your 2nd sentence means ...

It dun make any difference - it would be two awards anyway - cannot go from USA to Australia via Asia on a single award. QF/AA/FJ services will be ok for a single.

I guess it depends on your itinerary and the award. But for a simple USA-Australia, you cannot fly via Asia as it would be priced as two awards SEA-HKG and HKG-Australia. Whether you take a stopover or not doesn't matter because it's two awards. You can however fly non-stop on QF services (one award), or non-stop on AA flights (one award) or on Fiji Airways via NAN (which I *think* is one award... although I could be wrong on that).

You can add stopovers into tickets, but they are priced as separate sectors. Just meas it's all one one PNR.

Ok thanks. Yep, can attempt a multi-city, but it is 2x awards. Now I've 'lost one of the flights anyway. I'll just keep checking back to see if it comes back up. Bloody thing.

South Pacific to the contiguous 48 US states is priced as one award if it is "Transpacific only".

FYI you used to be able to get a free stopover at the North American international gateway but that has been removed for some time now.

I still want to ditch my last sector. Not going on to ANC, but getting off and staying off SEA. If at LAX I said I needed access to my suitcase in SEA and just don't take the last sector, can anyone see a problem with that?

select the 'hold itinerary' button (or something similar to that) :)

Thanks, will look for that button.

That should be fine. You haven't said what your itinerary is, but you could even ask them to tag it to SEA only at check in.

I have CBR - SYD - LAX - SEA - ANC one way. If they tag it to SEA that will be perfect, although I don't like to leave these things unresolved. AA wanted USD 175 or so to re-tkt.

How long is the flight connection at SEA? If it's a short connection they may not want to short-check it for you. If it was more than 2-3 hours I would think you might be ok.

If that is an award then you should be able to have a trailing domestic sector removed from an AAdvantage award booking at no charge before travel.

[-]If you have called and been told USD175 you have been given incorrect information.[/-]

[update]
Since there is a different award Australia to ANC (Region being "Alaska/Canada") than Australia to Seattle ("Contiguous 48 states") then this does not apply
