A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

I have called twice and both said it would need reissuing. What's a trailing sector? The connection SEA - ANC is 3 hours.

If that is an award then you should be able to have a trailing domestic sector removed from an AAdvantage award booking at no charge before travel.

[-]If you have called and been told USD175 you have been given incorrect information.[/-]

[update]
Since there is a different award Australia to ANC (Region being "Alaska/Canada") than Australia to Seattle ("Contiguous 48 states") then this does not apply

I want to book JFK-MEL (J) in early to mid April. I found CX availability but the agent couldn't book it and now from my reading it might be that they don't allow routing via Asia. Is this correct? If so are there other options on this route other than AA / QF?
Your other option is Fiji airways via NAN-LAX

I have CBR - SYD - LAX - SEA - ANC one way. If they tag it to SEA that will be perfect, although I don't like to leave these things unresolved. AA wanted USD 175 or so to re-tkt.

If they are difficult at check in and only want to tag your bag to ANC, when you get to TBIT, bring your checked bag with you out of the terminal and over to T4, take the old tag off and check in with AA "as new" and ask them to tag it to SEA only. Or, when you get to T4, say you only want to fly to SEA and cancel the last leg.

Dropping the last leg from SEA to ANC changes the destination region from contiguous 48 US states to Canada/Alaska. Under the new rules there is a mileage difference. Don't know what it was like with the old ones.

Opps - sorry

I was thinking Domestic USA, not so "48 contiguous".

In which case there would be $150+$25 for two PAX (By redepositing and getting a new award, otherwise it could be $150 per ticket).

That links to the new mileage rates.

The reason I mention the old rates is because if there was no mileage difference between the two regions: "contiguous 48 US states" and Canada/Alaska, then there may be a potential to cancel the last leg at no fee because the mileage does not change.

As it happens, I found out that there was no mileage difference in the old chart between those two regions in all classes: 32.5, 62.5, 72.5k for Y/J/F respectively.

The changes took effect from Mar 22, 2016 - so it's somewhat possible there may have been revalidation/reticketing done on an older (cheaper) award, pushing the travel date forward and in line with what presumably fits with an upcoming trip for the OP.

If booked under new rates = no chance of a free change.

GMOH - how much did you pay for the award and in what class?

I bought a J using AA miles > Mar 16. I am a bit reticent to tell them at any TBIT that I am not taking the last sector as they may insist on collecting the change fee. It is a pity that I will prob not be able to do HLO as I'm going north and may need some very smart casuals. Do you think if I was on HLO I could just disappear??

Now we're talking - I think this is the way to go. :D. Still hoping someone will have experience with 'disappearing'. Don't want them to have a go at my one way return though. And, don't want to get called over loud speakers and put everyone out holding things up.

HLO you can take two pieces, a small one at 40 inches and the large one a generous (45 inches). No weight restriction.

If HLO, no problem at all. When you get to SEA you could even tell them you want to cancel the last leg.

Technically there is a weight limit. As for enforcing it.... ;)
