A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Thanks serfty. My QF account still shows 13, 14, 15, and 16 August available in J on QF8. (I went all through to payment on 13 Aug 112K QF points). But, in people's experience, would AA ever be able to see it? I'm not fussy on which date, anywhere there will do.

This is the expert flyer search results but I don't understand which bit is J availability?

Thanks for the PM - I checked E/F and is returning "No" seats on the day in question.

My Wife's QF NB account is showing no availability.

AA.com is showing no availability.

My QF WP account is showing 2 seats availability.

Award business is U class .This has not been showing reliably on E/F for a month or so but you can try an award search: http://www.expertflyer.com/air/awardUpgrade.do

It looks like QF is making additional award space available for elites including your LTPS.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

What routes have people taken to get from West coast US to SYD when DFW and LAX etc not available to book w' AA? Looking from ~12 August.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Look at AA - put an EF alert on first/business reward for LAX-SYD on the dates you can travel.

Earlier this month I was successful with this for a mid - June flight, the alert came through 6 weeks after setting the alert back in July.

After being alerted I saw four seats were available.

Going online I immediately reserved a seat (through to MEL) putting it on the 5 day hold.

I then dragged up 80K AA miles - it took four days - and completed the booking.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I'm most keen to get something locked in and will buy the points necessary. I've looked at LAX, SFO, LAX and DFW. How about an Asia route - is that one bkg? I'd like to work in a '23 hour' stopover if possible. Any more suggestions would be most welcome.

how many points are you willing to part with? (route via Asia)

also try SFO on the QF flight?

nah double booking so more costly, but would give you the stopover.

e.g. CX to HKG then CX or QF home from there.
same through Japan

LM similar flexibility but through ICN on Asiana another option.

Alaska Air will do it in one booking and give you a stop ob

You can do USA to Aust on one booking with Alaska Air. You are also allowed a stop over in HKG but need to fly CX both legs.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I'd be v v happy w' CX via HKG, or AS. How do I search for those on AA, as I have not seen either - they don't show up(?) I don't know if I am asking the wrong question, but everything I ask for is not available.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

have to use BAEC (british airways) for CX availability. at least, i find better results there than using Qantas.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Ok thanks, AA cannot see it at all, so how do I actually book it? AA seems to only see AA for anything. Can I actually book it on BAEC?

CX and JL don't appear on aa.com.Need to find them other ways and ring to book.

So checked JL for you on my JMB account
LAX-NRT J awards on 16/,17/8 and 20-22/8
DFW-20-24/8.
SAN-16,18,20-24/8.

Then NRT-SYD J award available-18-24/8
But AA availability occasionally different.
Would cost 100,000 miles-60000 to NRT,40000 to SYD.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Thanks drron and the other helpful AFF people. I found it so easy to book the outgoing flights and very difficult to get back. I now have YVR - NRT - SYD on JL J. Two awards unfortunately, but at least I can stop the building frustration. 105K AA miles and AUD140. Plus, needed to spend 4 days in NRT.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Is there an easy way to check if a booking is ticketed properly? I think I am going a bit crazy here.

I have a booking (using AA miles), for travel from Sydney to Madrid, via Hong Kong. (QF and CX).
The HKG to MAD segment was changed from an original HKG-ZRH-MAD.

I note that the ticket number was changed following this flight change.

When I go to checkmytrip, it shows SYD-HKG-MAD, which is all OK, but the document ID displays HongKong-Madrid, NOT Sydney-Madrid as I would expect.

So, being concerned, I tried to see the booking on the Qatar (not Qantas) website, which shows the booking correctly. BUT, when I click on print e-ticket, it would show Hong Kong- Madrid, instead of Sydney- Madrid.

Not satisfied with that, I then tried viewing the Finnair website, and that showed both the old ticket number and the new ticket number!

Can anyone please explain what is going on???

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Just looking at SYD-NYC and saw that they were sending me via Xanadu. :p Unfortunately XNA is only Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

just to confirm for etihad it is now
SP-ME = 100k
ME-Europe = 62,500
for a total of 162,500/ person in F, compared to 100k back in the day?

I've been looking at award redemptions recently. From the AA Partner Awards chart, I had understood it to be 115,000 AA miles in F, South Pacific to Europe, via the ME. Am I reading this correctly?
