A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Yep - aware of that!

From Perth it is pretty much CX or QR

QR generally have better availability - so when looking into the future - would be great if we could transit DOH as it opens up more opportunities

And BA.

I assume South West Pacific - Asia 1/2 - DOH - Europe as one award is out of the question though? Would have got away with it in the USDM days!

in addition to the allowed transit points, there also has to be a published fare applicable for the itinerary you want. I'm not sure QR would offer such an itinerary AU-Asia-DOH-Europe?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I will be travelling BNE-PER next year and want to try QF J using AA points (AAdvantage). I've checked on the AA site and it only shows direct availability.
Does anyone know whether a connecting itinerary is possible eg BNE-MEL-PER-SYD-BNE (to check out the QPs ;) and compare QF transcon J with VA J) for the same points and if so does it require a phonecall to AA to book it?

Should be fine. Im surprised it doenst show connections online

I can published fares via HKG and DOH with the AU-Asia legs codeshares on CX. Would that count for the purpose of published fares?

Unless I am doing something wrong which is always possible. Would it be better to book though AA in USA or Australia? I recall reading on AFF that booking fees in Australia are higher than booking through the USA.

I think the connecting flights would show up if the availability on the direct flights disappears. You could try multi-city (online) if you have the flight timings you want. Let us know if if it stays at 17.5K when you chose that option.

Happy wandering

FWIW a friend of ours recently went to Istanbul flying SYD-xHKG-xDOH-SAW (CX,CX,QR)

Set up the booking and apply the 5 day hold.

Than call AA and ask them to reprice as a one-way with transfers. Once done, go back into your booking and finalise online.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Were these bookings on points. If so, how much?

60,000 for business class, one way ... can't remember the exact taxes but am very sure it was under $200

They returned TXL-xFRA-xDOH-xPER-SYD for 60,000, for similar taxes.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Pretty simple question: Can I earn AA miles flying QR from MEL-DOH?

AA website puzzlingly says...

[h=3]Regions[/h]Earn and redeem AAdvantage® miles for travel on Qatar within the Middle East and between the Middle East and:

  • North American
  • Europe
  • Africa
  • Asia

... which doesn't seem to include Australia?

Yes you can. As QR is a OW airline this flight will credit to AA

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I have an AA redemption on P fare booking on Qantas A388 (F, sweet). I've just changed the AA number to my QFF number. Does a P booking earn status credits?
