A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Interestingly I found some AUS-HKG-USA flights on QF that were not showing in aa.com. I called and the operator could see them and then I also found them doing a multi trip. In both cases they calculate the points a 2 separate segments.

Is this an AA routing rule that you cant fly South Pacific to North America via Asia? Must you use on QF or AA?

Worst case I may still book to burn points.

gosh it’s been a long time so I’m a little rusty… but indeed, travel between two regions generally can’t be via a third region. Obviously direct travel between two regions isn’t always possible so there are a bunch of exceptions to the general rule… but AU-USA via Asia isn’t one of them unfortunately.

At least from PER the cost of getting a paid ticket to SE Asia to use a "less expensive" award to the USA was historically worth the effort.

Is there any reason why Qantas would not be coming up on the AA site for redemptions? Not single one. This is for around April/May 2022.
I have looked for flights to Asia, out of Aus there is only Malaysian Airlines and Cathy and then coming home there is only Fiji airlines. Zero for anything else
Am i doing something wrong or do you think that maybe it is a little early for extra redemption flights in the system?

I would say that Qantas hasn't made the seats available to American members. Worse, I think we're going to see more and more varied availability between oneworld carriers going forward.

Anyone know a workaround for this? what occurs is although my address etc is Australian, it always fills the country as US, when i attempt to change it to Aus it tells me i need to book on the Aussie site. When i find the flight and go to book...you guessed it back to the bloody US prefill in a never ending loop.

If i just attempt to use my card it tells me i need to use another card or change sites, i attempted to use a Singapore issued card to see how it would go and same same ;/

There is a known work around that has been discussed extensively throughout this AA sub forum. I think @serfty or someone else even named it the ‘El Segundo’ trick? It seems the US card payment processing interface doesn’t care to match the country, state or postcode, as long as your street address is correct you’re fine.

So leave it as US, choose any US state and choose a valid postcode (zip) for that combination. For example, California 90210. Then just enter all of your local Australian address in the rest of the fields and Bob’s your uncle.

And if possible, remember to pay with a non FX fee card if using the US site.

Cheers mate, i'll give that a go. The Singapore issued card has close to interbank rates so should be all good on the FX.

Edit, payment failed, likely the card end but theyre a PITA to contact and deal with so i'll suck up the FX fees with Amex. Still much better than being stuck in the endless Au/US site loop.

I am lucky.Just put a zero in front of the my postcode I use for bill payment and it turns out to be a village in Maine.So I just leave the US as country and Maine as State with my Australian address as the rest.Never failed the AA payment and always accepted by my CC providers
Haha, I just checked mine and apparently I live in New Hampshire.

How long should i wait for a refund of points from a cancelled award flight? The award flight was original in June, cancelled before travel date. Rang up about 3 weeks ago about a refund of points and co-pay. Co-pay came in within a week, and is still on the credit card.
I'm still waiting for the points to be returned. Just wondering when to contact AAdvantage again

I would do so now. When I called to have 2 x bookings refunded, points were immediately returned and cash took about one week.

I had cancelled them on the internet however you actually have to call to have points and taxes refunded for partner awards.

I had some that were cancelled in August, still no points back in October - had to phone to chase them. Pretty easy phone call though.

Yes, I did online chat, the first time. It was pretty easy, but a worry when they asked for date of birth for the PAX. the cash came back
Might try a call to see about the points.

How do you access the online chat?
It was rather difficult at first. I accessed it via the contact page, i think using receipts and refunds, and then request a refund.
Actually, I'm not sure how I got to online chat, I'm trying to recreate now.
