I think doing this simplest and easiest flights would be best.

LAX-DFW-BWI-BWI-DFW-LAX for 480SCs &

AUD $ 1983.50

Just need to pick the flights that go via Dallas as the flights via Chicago are RJs ORD-BWI.

Flying to IAD doesn't work as well as DFW-IAD is just under the 1200 miles.

The MARC train from BWI to Washington Union Station is around $9.00, Union Station is part of the Washington Metro so you can then get around cheaply.

There is a flight that departs 13:25pm arrive into Los Angeles at 6:00pm and then only 4 hours to your connecting flight back to Australia.

I can understand trying to maximize the status credits but if you are trying to reach platinum in one trip than what is the point.

Good advice Bundy. Will already be WP, its the chellenge. Time is the main issue, I like many here are time poor!!

cheers

Enjoy!

Is this a special fare or can it be booked on the AA site? Do you use multi-city? I haven't been able to get the Instant Upgrade fares to show when booking a multi city fare. It always just shows the normal First Class fare.

dede, can you post a screen shot of what you're seeing? It can be booked on aa.com by selecting the multi city option on the main page. Also, I'm not sure that instant upgrade fares are available on all flights eg. flights operated by American Eagle which is soley economy).

I believe that type of routing requires an agent book it these days.

While only online engine at AA.com used to fare out a routing like this and withjin the fare's rules, it has been "tricked up" to no longer give the prices it used to.

Sorry, this is a pretty basic question but you friendly people will excuse my ignorance I'm sure.

How do you easily calculate what the American flights net you? I assume you are looking at AA status for Qantas FF? Do you go to the AA website and divide the credits by 2? Do you need to be an AA member already to get to the calculator?

See post #19 of this thread.

be aware that in relation to this thread, when travelling on American Airlines, A and P classes are "First Class" and "J and I" classes are business clas.

Instead of creating a new thread Ill bump this and ask for general suggestions.

Looks like I'll have a chance to do some Status running in the future. I've timed it perfectly to occur just after my SCs reset. I'll fly Discount Y PER-SYD return(40 SCs) and *class on JQ SYD-HNL (280 SCs). That has me in HNL with some running to do and permission from Mrs 11sjw to do it.

Serfty's suggestion looks the goods (all Kup) HNL-LAX (150SCs), LAX-DFW (120SCs), DFW-MIA (90SCs) and MIA-POS (J - 80 SCs) and return for a total of 880SCs. (App US$1700). Note all based on mileage monkey distances and the QF chart.

This leaves 200 SCs for WP. I'm thinking of breaking the return trip up and a side hop (DFW-PHL app US$1300) to clean it all up and have WP for the best part of two years upon my return. I haven't baulked too hard at the US $1300 as the savings in QC membership alone will offset most of it.

I guess I factor in a night or two in a hotels (POS and DFW) and all up extra cost for WP will equate to app AUS$4K.

Any other suggestions?

I know some people say the AA.com multi city selector doesn't work but am I correct in saying that when booking you look for a through fare eg HNL to PAP as opposed to sectorising some or all of the intermediate stops in between?

Serfty tossed that suggestion into the thread but I was able to replicate the $$ for HNL-POS and POS to HNL via the multi city tool and entering each leg seperately.

As one of my favourites is Aruba you could do the HNL to AUA this way for AUD2012.60:shock: all booked in A and I;

HNL-X/LAX-LAS-X/DFW-RDU-X/MIA-AUA-X/MIA-RDU-X/DFW-LAS-X/LAX-HNL

On the outbound HNL/AUA stretch what's the longest you can stopover at LAS & RDU?
Is it like the standard IATA definition of a stopover eg up to 24 hours even if there is an overnight stay involved or could you stay a few days?

Also Aruba has been on my wishlist for awhile, what month did you visit there & when would you recommend others travel there?

I think the general IATA rules apply as the fare is a through mileage fare with unlimited transits so you can do a couple of night stops but that is it.

Each time was September and was just beautifull. Ocean temperatures of 32 degrees... I stay at the Occidental Grand on Palm Beach in all inclusive formula and had a very nice time.

You could also look at BGI for some runs. There are some stunning runs from HNL to BGI via LAX and a variety of places on the mainland. This should actually be cheaper than $2500 AUD as well if you do it correctly.

Thks for that Ozmille, I noticed too that AA have a 763 between Maui's Kahului Apt - OGG & DFW is an overnight flight though but daytime DFW/OGG.

AA006 OGG/DRW 1800/0500+1 @ 3711 flight miles
AA007 DFW/OGG 1215/1645 @ 3711 flight miles

You could also so an open jaw journey - using your example eg:

HNL/xLAX/LAS/xDFW/RDU/xMIA/AUA/xMIA/RDU/xDFW/LAS/SFO or LAX as the HNL/AUA was USD855.00 one way for Feb 2011 & ex SFO was USD514.00. Some people might want to fly into HNL & out of West Coast USA.

Also if you had the forward & return flights in separate pnrs but wanted to stop in MIA I guess you could forfeit the MIA/AUA sector however you'd want to make very sure that bags were check only to MIA - could be dicing with danger there!
