A Christmas Special: on Singapore Airlines A330 Business Class ADL to SIN

The VERDICT:

Being a xmas themed meal service certainly added to the festive feeling onboard this flight - a home away from home sort of xmas.

I'm sure SQ has been talked alot about here and on other sites, and judging by my personal experiences, it has once again lived up to its name with its quality service, presentation and onboard offerings.

And....just to mention the service elements of the FA's - yes sometimes they exhibited a robotic and methodical nature but they were warm, friendly and happy to engage in a bit of chit chat. I think in recent years they've become more personable and trained to engage more with customers. The 2 Fa's serving my aisle took time to chat and joke with pax, in addition to being efficient and timely to addressing our service requests. They were also keen to promote SQ, and talk in detail about the flight's food and seat product offering, duty free items, and making sure everyone was comfortable and having a enjoyable flight.

Ms Wong - the lead in the cabin on that day was also keenly interested in my photo taking and asked about my blogging - I'm sure she'll read this soon enough!

Yes there were some things like the blue socks which might be a bit of a let down- but overall I rate this flight a 9/10.

Pre-departure up till boarding - 8/10 (outside SQ's control but an express system could be implemented at ADL)

Cabin presentation 8/10 (some signs of wear - my tray table felt it was in desperate need of some lubricant. Xmas decorations a huge plus)

Food - 9/10 (portions for nuts a bit small, humongous whole fruits served, otherwise entree, main and dessert flavours were excellent)

Lav- 9/10 (clean, well kept, good toiletries on offer, a big plus is the foot activated trash door)

Crew service - 9/10 (not as chatty or perhaps 'nosy' as some that I have encountered on VA or EY, but were very hard working diligent, and happy to share jokes and engage in small talk.)

IFE - 9/10 (mostly quickly, although some lag expected)

OTP-10/10 (left early, arrived early)

cheers

Great report, thanks.

I did the same flight in J a couple of times just before xmas (thanks to Lifemiles!!), and I have to agree SQ does a fantastic job. The idea of flying out of Australia on QF via MEL or SYD is starting to become less appealing (despite the great F lounges).

Thankfully I missed out on the whole fruit though. Mine was already cut...perhaps they didn't trust me with a knife!

Fantastic report. Thanks for taking the time and effort to document so concisely. And to coin a new word... "swivelable" headrest lamp. :)

Great TR and informative photos, thanks for taking the time to report and post.

Nice TR! Interesting to see the *A side of ADL.

Sorry to be a wet blanket but I have just been on the ADL - Sin flight in J nd don't share the same enthusiasm.

Don't get me wrong the product is good but not to be compared with the 777 300ER or A380 product. The seats are the "regional" product as they put it . Not lay flat and a bit uncomfortable.

The food not up to the same standard as it is out of Sydney (sorry haven't flown out of Melb). The lounge is at best a token effort in Adelaide.

Personally I would not fly out of ADL again on the same product. It is inferior to what is being offered out of SYD. Sure it saves time but A330 does not cut it in my book for the same points or money whichever you use.

I think SQ is in the top tier of airlines but the product out of ADL is not up to scratch.

My opinion for what it is worth.

Excellent TR! I've also wondered about the J experience ex-ADL.

I'm flying SQ J MEL-SIN A330 next week and looking forward to it!

ditto for BNE, great report nonetheless

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the report.
I do agree about the "whole fruit" experience. Can be rather inconvenient.

I like the service ex BNE, as I can normally get a flight that's not overnight so no need to really worry about the bed etc.

Fair comment and thats the way I usually travel in the day, but sometimes J seats are hard to come by so have been bumped to overnight. Th planes are showing their age too, need a refurb

Prematurely showing their age I suspect, had one tatty flight and was surprised to see it was a three year old plane, although it's not limited to just the 330s, one a380 flight was also similar.

A380's are ok but the best experience with SQ was a 77W from SIN to HKG it was heading on to SFO from memory, great sleeper seats and very spacious layout

And how old are the SQ 330's - you may want to check that as they aren't that old.

It may be the interiors that dont age well, the design is dated in my opinion, not like CX on the same route

Thanks for the report - those J seat look very similar to those used by VA in their newer 330's.
