Are the seats that SIA is currently using on their 744 services out of Sydney the standard seats for all their long haul fliughts? I just got back from a J class trip to HK via SIN.

The 744 seats were horrible. Both of my legs were numb after an hour from the high front lip. I was thinking about SYD-SIN-LAX-SIN-SYD in february, but I'm not sitting in those seats for the SIN-LAX sectors!

The pinky-purple seats in the 777-200 SIN-HKG were far more comfortable than those in the 744.

Thanks!

Most likely the same seats. The 747 have spacebeds in business class (except one rogue aircraft 9V-SMT which normally wouldn't fly to SYD or HKG). The same spacebeds are on 777-200ER (2 class a/c) and A345 (except more several inches more pitch and an extra cubby pocket with mirror). The SQ options for flying between SIN and LAX are 747 via NRT, 777-200ER via TPE and A345 nonstop.

I don't notice the front lip. The seat is very similar to QF's skybed, in that it lies flat on a slight slope, has a shell, but a bit wider and different position for the pockets. I prefer the spacebed to skybed.

Thanks, Kiwi. I didn't mean to denigrate SQ - everyone has their own preferences. I hate the Cathay 1st class seats with almost no padding - I'd probably be happy to pay a premium to be downgraded to business from 1st on Cathay!

Oh, well .. I was hoping to do more on SQ, but for my body the seats just don't work. Cathay or Air NZ it will have to be, then!
