While we were waiting for a drunk passenger to be removed from QF846 last night in Sydney, we had a 747 come into gate 9 at Sydney domestic. Don't know where it came from but it did look a little unusual for someone who is not a sydney local.

OJD has been a naughty girl and lost her passport after having too much of a good time in Germany  (data from QF source jet tracker http://www.theqantassource.com/qijettracker.html)

QF committed to a 747 on the PER leg after DJ announced the A330s, funnily enough! I had been expecting it for some time and posted as much, it seems to be the retirement path for each 747 family - starting at the 742s!

And us Perth folk are all too pleased to be part of the farewell tours!

I guess it keeps them close to home for the weekly massage of the old bones.:D

I was also looking at some SYD-PER flights in July 2012, and yes it is a 747!

Now I wonder how seat allocation works being a WP and flying in J? Any chance of pre-allocating ..... 1A?

yep! However, generally the 2 class 744 operates it, so it's still J but you might get lucky and get an F seat as occasionally one of the others does the flight. The same applies for Y/Y+ if they use a jet with it.

wow, are there that many passengers flying from Perth to Sydney?

V popular route at the moment

Do SYD-PER every 6 weeks and happy to go over on A332 and back on 747, especially the 747. :p

Now if only QF would have more upgrade seats available at time of booking instead of having to play "at check-in upgrade roulette"

I wouldn't mind it if QF put on something other than 763s on the morning flights to SYD!

Suprised you choose this option as my preference is the reverse.

WHY?

Because the flight is longer and the 747 is significantly quicker especially during annual strong headwinds in winter.

In the old days, a 727 would need to drop into ADL for extra fuel to make the flight across the Nullabor.

Once I was 6:40 on a 737 SYD-PER and the plane did not run of fuel but drinking water.

Best time for a PER-SYD sector has been 3 hours.
