737-800 on Trans Tasman

Just back this week after return TT flights in Y on Air NZ to use up expiring airpoints. Excellent flights each way, food fine, choice of beers limited but OK, sparkling available. Inflight entertainment easy to use with touchscreen or remote. Baggage handling fine. Flights near full both ways.

Hi Empdizz,

OT... however...if qf value TT travel so much as to introduce these new planes, when are transcon pax going to get the same level of service.

I fly J between SYD and PER and we still get stuck with main screen movies only (unless you get the A333's which appear to be ending).

The cost is higher, the flight is longer and the service is less, it doesn't make sense.

Hi ejb,

We plan on putting several of these 737-800's mid to late 2010, its just the first few ones will be put on TT routes.

The Domestic 737-800's will have the same configuration (Intl Y seating)

110VAC, combo socket, takes US/Eu/Oz plugs - not UK.

The USB sockets have more use than simply power - I have not used them, but this may be pertinent:

Answer

The USB ports are not just for power.

You are also able to access songs, movies and photos on any USB device and view it on the touch screen AVOD.

Unfortunately, due to Ipod dependence on iTunes, this is not compatible with iPods and Iphones

PER/BNE, PER/SYD & PER/MEL are the only ones on the lists at the moment, but like everything in the aviation industry, this is subject to change.

I believe you can do this with AirNZ as well; however I believe the content needs to be in the 'root' folder. (My one attempt with AirNZ failed and this is the reason given on my feedback/query.)

Cool. (Although I guess that means that the idea of PER-MEL and PER-SYD going to all wide body flights has been subject to one of those changes!)

+1. If I can get inseat Power in Y, I would be a very happy man.

Great and thank you.

AVOD on longer domestic routes, very exciting and long time coming.

Hopefully this pushes DJ to upgrade their pay for pay TV with annoying commercials and no guarantee of starting a show at the begining to AVOD with their new 737s!

AVOD on SYD \ MEL to PER flights would be good. I know that there is the one A333 flight, but I can't take the return flight as it gets in too late for me to connect to a SYD - CBR flight.

PTV was a major reason why I used the old B743's for cross country flights...

Thanks for the information.

I look forward to the improvement.

Hi,

Not sure if this is already up on here or not but TVNZ did a story on the new 737-800's and naming it after NZ pioneers, one of the reporters did a stand up walking through the Y section of the new jet. Can't see the PTV's or the J seats but i suppose it's a look inside the jet at least.

Here's the link: Qantas honours Kiwi pioneers on new planes | News Video

Not a Kiwi but found it via a Google news search :), look about 1min into the video.

Maybe AFF should post a bounty/prize for first interior photos of the new 73H!........

Still no interior pics but I did find this on the QF website.

Note the 'first of 31' comment! What great news...! I had just thought they would cover off TT and throw a couple more on the cross country routes but 31 looks like a heap of other routes will eventually be converted to the enhanced 73H.
