My BNE-CBR flight today on a 734 (in Y) was very pleasant. As long as I'm not flying J, I don't see what's wrong with them.

I havent had a 734 MEL-SYD in my memory though I have had J on a 734 ADL-PER (part of a DONE4 under the old rules :() - that is a mistake I won't make again.

I am intrigued by the anti-763 comment above - I get one of 23ABJK generally on those flights and have no issues - toilets are pretty close, leg room is great. Not seeing a problem.

I'm with you simongr I like the 763 over any of the 737's due to the 2 4 2 seating.

Just back from SYD into Briz on a very tired old 400 series... delayed by storms again... i reckon this aircraft would have to be the next one retired...

Out of interest Ozdunker what other carriers are offering seat back TV for J on domestic flights in Oz or any where else:

AA - no
BA - No
CX - possibly if you count the fold out TV arm on regional jets
DJ/VA - digi players?
AY - no

Jetblue - coach
United/Continental - coach

Grrr, it annoys me reading posts like this. Behind the times hey due to no seatback IFE on a short flight. Get real, let me tell you there are very very very few airlines anywhere in the world that offers seat back IFE on flights comparable to what Qantas runs domesticity. In fact most offer NO IFE at all, not even audio, letalone main screen video or heavan forbid AVOD personal IFE.

We in Australia have been spoilt beyond belief by the products that have been offered by the likes of Australian/Qantas/Ansett and now Virgin Aus. I guess the issue is many see the fancy long haul products that fly here and expect the same on a Canberra-Sydney milk run. Out of touch beyond belief.

Well gee, I must have been imagining the live TV I was watching flying around the USA on flights the same length as what the Melb-BNE flight would be.
What is even better is that 90% of the time was I getting free upgrades to First (ie business). Certainly not spolit in Australia, probably more taken for granted in a captured market.

I dont expect much on a Syd-Canberra flight, but flying Bne-Melb in J I would expect something a little better than basic seats with an extension piece on them and no IFE, and flying in an old plane.

man, are you crazy? the 400 is THE way to fly if you are going economy and can get row four or five. it even has the little mini coughtail tables between the seats, and sometimes they even leave the white fabric square off the centre seat. Which, on British Airways, would probably cost you fifty quid. Now if you have to SIT in the centre seat, however... I have been in 4A alone and received drinks, in glassware, from a very obliging Purser who was not very busy in Business. A downgrading of the Business product for paying customers, sure, but I wasn't complaining.

I never said no airline offered it and I stand by the statement I made which is was "...few airlines anywhere in the world that offers seat back IFE on flights comparable to what Qantas runs domesticity". Sure some do, but I am willing to bet it was one of the smaller niche market airlines and not the big boys.

United.

FWIW most of the USA airlines now have wifi as well.

On United's coast to coast premium flights or the regular fleet? Referring to the previous comment about seat back IFE.

united / continental - regular fleet. Didnt have them on the jet between houston and dallas, but all the longer 2hour+ flights had them.

I havent flown on the coast to coast flights premium flight.

Have UA got seatback IFE on their 747 fleet yet?
