Trawled for existing posts on this but most are talking about Row 40 and, I suspect, a slightly different configuration as Row 41 is rarely mentioned.

Flying QF22 NRT-SYD on Jan 30 and the seat map I'm being shown is a 4-class 744.

I've put in for a Y+ upgrade, but I was wondering if anyone could pass comment on the small economy cabin with rows 40 and 41.

In Row 40, AB and EF are (currently) free. Similarly in Row 41, ABC and HJK are free. There do not appear to seats at 40HJK (or, at least, they don't appear in the seat selection map).

Can anyone advise what this looks like in the plane ? Does this mean there's no seats and acres of legroom in front of 41HJK, or are the seats 40HJK not showing up on the seat map because they're crew rest ?

If you're able to select those seats online without paying for them then you can be pretty sure there's not acres of legroom in front of them.

Correct - 40HJK are a crew rest area and curtained off. Row 40 has plenty of legroom - and are not exit row so perhaps can be reserved as a standard seat.

We have flown once in Row 40 DEF and found it quite pleasant (3 years ago).

SeatGuru Seat Map Qantas Boeing 747-438 (744) Four Class suggests Row 41 are bad seats with limited recline.

Yeah, I found that as well, but SG can be wrong sometimes about that sort of thing.

Any thoughts on what 41HJK would be like ? Choices at the moment are
* sharing 40AB with whoever has got 40C
* taking 41AB or 41JK and hoping nobody takes the third seat
* taking a pair of the "couples seats" up the back in rows 7x

We're both WP and I put in the upgrade request a month or so ago, so I imagine we have a pretty good chance of being pushed up into Y+ - but I like to have a solid backup plan. ;)

41HJK are just standard seats, no extra leg room and very average.

However with the seats in front being crew rest thru are not occupied that much.

I used to covet such seats ... as for recline there is no more or less than any other seats ... Just no one grabbing them to get up.

Row 40 is great - I had enough room to use my carry on as a foot stool

All row 41 gives you is a little peace and quiet

Oh and definitely share row 40 with whoever takes 40c - there is enough to get around them if they are asleep
