WORK has started on the biggest upgrade to Melbourne airport since it was opened in 1970.

The $330 million expansion will add another 25,000 sq m to the international terminal, including a new outbound passenger processing zone and a new Customs and security precinct.

Five new gates will be added and baggage systems upgraded.

The renovations will be carried out in a series of staged projects, to ensure minimal disruption to passengers, Mr Woodruff said.

Is this on top of the other recent announcement? I seem to racell another one aside from the SYD one...

but its not just about the extra gates. Think how many more retail outlets can fit into the terminal, each bringing its own ongoing source of revenue for the airport owners :rolleyes: .

Dont forget the increased passenger handling charges that will be imposed for you to snake thru Westfields Tulla
