Anyone noticed that the points required for Qantas award flights on some routes (e.g. CBR-OOL) are now showing as 30% off in Y on the QF website?

Limited to/from OOL only?

Yep, looking that way.

Just doing some more searches, and everything on QF metal to/from Gold Coast seems to be 30% off in Y, e.g. ADL-OOL is 8,400 points. But not other routes.

Edit: No, actually ADL-KGC is also 30% off at 5,600 points.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Well I've done some more investigating, and the 30% discount off Qantas economy awards also seems to apply to all flights to/from MGB & TSV.

The discount seems to be available for travel any time in the next year.

Still nothing advertised from Qantas. 🤷‍♂️

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I just booked BNE-TSV-CNS and CNS-TSV-BNE-CBR for the 30% discount.

Happened upon it by chance a couple of days ago.

Were you able to get those routes at 30% off? I can only get the discount to work if the trip starts or ends in one of the eligible destinations (OOL, TSV, MGB or KGC).

Maybe destinations where the taxes are a big proportion of the fare, so not a huge loss in revenue?

In fairness to Qantas, the award booking carrier charge ($14 per sector) is the same on all domestic routes. The variation on domestic bookings is due to the difference in fees going to third parties like government/airport operators etc.

Anyway, the taxes to Mount Gambier are actually quite reasonable (e.g. $28 for MEL-MGB).

Yes, the 30% discount was applied for these routes starting and ending in CNS (via TSV on a Dash-8). I now have the tickets, and am flying next week (Covid permitting). It was a pleasant surprise, as they were the routes I wanted anyway.

Interesting. I can’t replicate this now.

You're right, it now seems to have gone. Glad I booked when I did (last ticket with discount booked at 12:20 today).

Perhaps our discussion killed it (Qantas spies)?

Actually, on checking today, it appears that you can still get the discount by transiting TSV to another destination.
