How to use 28 Degrees Cr Card to withdraw cash overseas

Which ATM does one use in Canada and USA to avoid transaction fees when cash is loaded prior to travelling i.e. non Wespac ATM in Australia want $2. What happens OS?

Re: 28 Degrees card exchange rate?

Hi,
I just wanted to confirm about the cash advances on this card. Being that I can cash advance and immediately BPay that amount to avoid interest. (Other than the 1 or two days interest before the BPay takes to get there)

1. If already have purchases on the card before the end of statement cycle and I withdraw cash then Bpay that amount, the cash withdrawal is paid first.
2. Statement cycle has come and statement is to be paid and I withdraw cash then Bpay that amount, the cash withdrawal is paid first.

Also, is there any fee free ATMs I should use in the US?

Thanks.

Re: 28 Degrees card exchange rate?

Cambodia...
Siem Reap - ANZ Royal ATM
US$5 service fee....
maybe USD travellers cheques the go for Cambodia

Re: 28 Degrees card exchange rate?

To edit on Cambodia....
fee appears to differ wildly depending on bank (based on some other internet report)
ANZ Royal - $5 my experience, $4 on some other
Unknown at PP Airport - $6
Canadia Bank (in both PP and SR) - seemingly free
Mekong Bank (PP) - free
Others - usually $2.

so basically - avoid ANZ.

Also despite BPay two days "after" the first withdrawal, the BPay deposit is showing as processed on the same day of the withdrawal, and one line after it... GRR - So I assume that 28 Degrees will treat this as a payment of my existing balance rather than the outstanding cash advance.

Re: 28 Degrees card exchange rate?

Without trawling through 60 pages of posts does anyone know which NZ ATMs are fee free? I will assume Westpac like here but don't know for sure.

Oh and if anyone needs to know in Canada I found that Royal Bank of Montreal was the only ATM that didn't charge a fee.
In the USA I didn't find one that did charge a fee but I didn't use many.

Thanks.

I've never come across fees in any of those countries.

Re: 28 Degrees card exchange rate?

Interesting experience for those of you who have had your card cancelled while you're overseas...

I recently told them I was travelling, however didn't use the card as I was using my Platinum Card from Bankwest that also doesn't charge FX fees.

While I was away I got an email saying my statement had been issued - what statement? I haven't used my card since March!!

So logged in and found a bunch of fraudulent transactions. Long story of a week of phone calls following things up, two of the four txns have been charged back and the other two are hopefully close. There are also a number of other authorisations, however these seem to be dropping off before they post.

When I first called I had to ask them to cancel my card because the card had obviously been compromised (through a merchant I suspect as the card has never left my possession). Then I was asked 'would you like me to send you a new one?'.... What on earth do you think? I want you to cancel my card and not issue me a new card?????????

Now I've had to point out to them that by reversing the txns there is a discrepancy on my statement due to FX fluctuations.

Talking to a staff member (from Chargebacks) in Australia that I was dumped through to by the first CSO, she indicated that the fraud team had tried to call me (I did see a missed call from a blocked number), but I didn't answer (because my phone was in the hotel safe in Hong Kong) and they didn't cancel my card because I was abroad!!

So frustratingly the one time they should have cancelled my card they didn't and actually followed the assumption that people would be annoyed at being cutoff while overseas...

What an awful website too... I constantly have issues and have to delete all the cookies and browsing history etc *sigh*

Re: 28 Degrees card exchange rate?

well - I guess they are in trouble if they do and trouble if they don't (cancel your card). You told them you were going overseas, and I guess they were being helpful in that overseas transactions came in and they hence didn't cancel. They weren't to know you weren't using the card while overseas. And they did try to call you.

A chargeback shouldn't accrue any FX fees or discrepancies because the charge is voided as if it had never happened. The only time FX fees come in is if a cardholder calls the merchant and the merchant reverses the transaction.

You don't say where you were when they offered t send you a new card. If you were back in AU then I would just expect them to do it. But if you were overseas then it is a legitimate question. You may be travelling extensively and not be in a place to receive a card easily.

i have never had any problems with the website. I have used it on firefox, explorer and chrome. Plus from mobile devices.

Agree they are damned either way... was just funny that others here have had the reverse (ie card cancelled while travelling because of perfectly legitimate tens)

I'm not 100% sure about the chargeback process, however it would appear that the merchant reversed the transaction when 28 Degrees prompted rather than it being a protracted process... either way the amount in AUD showing on my statement doesn't exactly match with the amount debited. I shouldn't have had to point this out to them and organise to have it cleaned up.

Agree with the card reissue piece, however the call to report the fraudulent txns was from the hotel while I was preparing to go to the airport and fly home so it would have been a moot point where I was... The card that was issued that day arrived in AUS a few days after I'd returned.

The above detailed information I only got from speaking with a chargeback specialist in Australia - the normal customer service team who took my initial call seemed oblivious to the fact I was overseas etc...

Well you are very lucky regarding the website - I've had many many issues and this thread is full of members complaining of various issues.

Re: 28 Degrees card exchange rate?

Can anyone advise on ATMs in the USA currently providing fee free withdrawals? I saw a post suggesting Chase was one.

There aren't many.

In New York, the ATM at many of the McDonald stores are 99c per withdrawal, up to USD200, which I think is pretty good.

Re: 28 Degrees card exchange rate?

It also depends on the state you're in. There's a handful of states where regulations prevent them hitting you with a fee, every withdrawal I made in Boston was free.
