I just received an email offering a $250 flight voucher if I joined Qantas Club. The way it was written suggests it was targeted at former SG/WPs with "remember the feeling ...".

Only valid for purchases of new 1, 2, or 4 year individual memberships (not partner/corporate). Travel voucher will appear in 6-8 weeks and must be used within 6 months to book a one way or return (no multi-city) QF flight, domestic or ex-Australia international.

The one year individual rate including joining fee is $235 more than the corporate rate, so barely worth it, and the 2 year one is $320 more. I don't think I'll be taking up the offer.

My Bronze mother in law got this offer (for $250), never been above Bronze and only has 400 lifetime SC's.
She does however have an upcoming international flight booked in Flex fare class.

My offer was $300 but never mind - "Members renewing their Qantas Club membership or joining under a Qantas Club Corporate or Partner membership are not eligible for this offer."

My wife got similar email, PS for the last two years, but only $150 credit.

I got an offer for the $250 voucher, being a former SG who dropped down this month to PS.

I won't be taking up the offer as, if I was planning to join the QP, the saving gained through the AFF Corporate rate for gold members is better anyway. (And it seems I wouldn't have to pay the joining fee if I "renew" now anyway.)

I've got an email from QFF for $200 off next flight when I join the QP. I've always been NB.

It's a weird email though, as there is no body to it - just From: QF, To: robd, Subject: 4 days only etc. and blank page.

Offered $200 as a PS who dropped down from SG. Many moons ago had purchased QP.

Poorly thought out campaign offering different people different amounts. Only builds resentment for those who get the lesser offer.

But you have to remember as we're a forum of FFers we are bound to hear about others offers, the normal general public who get these offers will probably never know if their friend got one and even if so how much. :D

Yes, it’s an exclusive targeted offer, with voucher values randomly assigned as below:

25% of targeted members will get an offer of a $150 Qantas Flight Gift Voucher, 25% offered a $200 voucher, 25% offered a $250, and 25% offered a $300 voucher.

As always, the gift voucher is exempt from booking and card payment fees. However, it must be used towards payment of a booking within 6 mths.

..... with voucher values randomly assigned ....

Sorry, I am usually the ultimate Qantas fan, but have had a long day.

"randomly assigned voucher values" ??? It makes me cringe thinking about how no doubt some highly qualified sales experts marketed this concept to QF senior staff. Yet another dreamy project that sounded great because it was different. Am sure when the concept was presented, there was a flurry of pats-on-backs, etc etc.

Is there another wonderfully-funded think tank doing a much more boring task, that of monitoring and listening to actual real customer feedback?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

To be fair juddles, this is a fairly common way in marketing to allocate promo's within a certain budget. For example usually Management would say to their marketing team "We need to increase signups for X product, you have a $1mil budget allocated to increase sales 10%".
Having random amounts assigned for each offer means potentially more offers can be sent out within the budget rather than a fixed amount, as at the end of the day only x% of people will actually take up the offer so by offering some lower amounts and others higher amounts you are spreading your distribution more evenly. ie. no one segment is worthy of more money in this example of qantas club membership as the amount is the same for each signup (hence random distribution), whereas for groceries shopping rewards they have to be tailored to how you spend otherwise high spenders will not take up low $ awards/points offers.

I on the other hand think these types of offers are great, and could represent good value for many.

*Note: I do not proclaim to be a marketing expert, but have had a lot of exposure to these types of things over the years, please don't take this as an attack, just pointing out how offers can be targeted based on the product and value.etc. :)

Well I was in the bottom 25% of the targeted people. Currently a NB

The spread of values randomly assigned could also give QF information on exactly how much various segments of the FF population, based on former status, QC membership or neither, and other personal factors value membership, and what incentives it takes to make them buy in. That kind of data could be useful for future marketing ploys, perhaps.

This too, was just editing my reply to include just that, well said!

Can you imagine at a dinner party with friends. Person A tells them of this great deal they got from QF and getting a $200 flight voucher. Person B pipes up saying that got similar but $300. How much goodwill towards QF do you think person A will have?

We are talking edge cases here! obviously these are not confidential offers so there may be some talk between friends but in all honesty average joe probably would not, when I goto a dinner party I don't talk about QFF offers :D unless it is an AFF dinner that is.

$300 offer - NB but just took a return business class trip to HK on Qantas so almost PS.
