2027 travel plans

We have 3 weeks in Bali booked and was excited when I saw a thread about what to do in Bali on AFF but turned out to be spam. šŸ˜„

Then a repositioning cruise from Sydney to SF in April. Was going to visit Yosemite and they fly back. Wondering if we should cancel cruise? Seems like a long time to get to SF - 23 days!
Then Japan in Sep/Oct and DONE4 around the world for the rest of 2027 and into 2028.
Open to ideas of where to go!

23 days is perfect

I've been given spousal approval, and now employer approval, to plan a birthday trip to Japan in August. Will have to take the boy who'll be 8 by then.
It'll be a trip based around seeing a soccer match at the new stadium in Hiroshima. But those fixtures won't be available until June so a lot of the planning has to wait until then. Going to book flights that guarantee me two weekends to at least make it easier.
But there's likely to be baseball, Pokemon related things, guitar shopping, and a little sight-seeing off the beaten track.

Booked a trip to ( primarily) Germany for May to watch the IIHF World Championship (ice hockey) finals weekend in Dusseldorf. Couple of days in Brussels as it was the nearest airport with J award availability via SQ, then a few days each in Dusseldorf, Berlin, Munich and Vienna. Coming home with QR and looking forward to trying Qsuites for the leg home from Doha.

Look into Kanto park and how to book that. Different pokemon centres also have different specialties so hitting all the different ones in cities is actually fun.

Remember August is hot and humid AF. You can get 35 with 100% humidity so plan accordingly.

It should be peak baseball season so games should be everywhere and it's honestly a fun experience (and not just for the actual game). Like Baystars this year is collaborating with the Pokemon company and have whole bunch of themed stuff at the game.

Mid August is also when people are on holidays so plan accordingly if you aren't going to be in major population centres (lots of small businesses may be closed).

Well this is happening. SQ Y flights PER-KIX-PER booked yesterday. 11 days at the end of August 2027.

Planning on going to Bali sometime mid-late next year - CBR - DPS on VA, will be my first time there!
Would love some suggestions on resorts, will be tricky as we have 2 very young kids, one will not be born until Feb! the other will be around 3 - so really struggling with ideas on resort - aim is to be there 5-7days.

From my post upthread #144

Like most destinations, the area you choose to stay can make or break a great holiday @yeswecanberra

Having been to Bali many times since the '80's, much has changed.

Depending on what you like to do/not do and budget, options are endless.

My brief thoughts are

Canguu : influencers, party central and crazy traffic - avoid!

Ubud : cooler, green, relaxing, yoga retreats etc

Kuta : busy, commercial, cheaper accommodation, younger folk, schoolies

Seminyak/Legian : families, better resorts, good restaurants and shopping

Sanur : similar to the above

Nusa Dua : Resort central, away from the maddening crowds but not your real Bali, you could be anywhere in the world

Uluwatu : Surf

Many AFF's have posted about Bali @RooFlyer @Pushka @jase05
Good luck with your planning

@yeswecanberra We are in Bali right now. In Padma Legian. Two sunny days then the longest thunderstorm ever overnight. This morning it is this

But typical Bali is now hot and about to be sunny again. Padma Legian is good. The staff are fabulous. Have friends currently staying at Hard rock hotel and loving it but child is a little older. Kuta area a dive at the moment though due to major construction of buildings and pavements. Avoid school holidays if you can. It's windy on Nusa Dua side in June and July. Very windy.

If and when we return to Bali it'll be for Hard Rock. We didn't take kids when we went, but there were plenty of tots and babies there.
Our kids would likely hop in the pool(s) and never leave.
Maybe not the quietest place though.

Thanks for this! very helpful, especially the run down on the areas! while id love to get around to see the real Bali, i suspect we will try for Nusa Dua, we are pretty flexible on budget, its more a what are we getting in return, i.e. happy to pay up if what is included stacks up, things like meals, nanny services, etc.
