2026 F1 Thread

You literally cut the IF off my sentence and changed the meaning.

Yes the penalty was for cutting corners not an unsafe car, he couldnt turn one way he said...therefore maybe proving car was possibly unsafe??? Point is he lost a few spots, gained no advantage and didnt really interfere with others too much...a needless penalty.

May as well give one to HAD for damaging the wall.
I think Ferrari/LEC may have painted themselves into a corner and were effectively wedged by the stewards. LEC claims he can't turn in a direction due to vehicle damage, so he needed to cut this chicanes. Stewards argue that there was no clear and obvious damage preventing him from turning, therefore his chicane cutting was excessive and constitutes gaining an advantage, issuing a 20s penalty. If Ferrari/LEC want to argue the point re: damage, then they risk proving the car was unsafe and should have been parked up. The potential penalty for not doing so? Likely more severe.

Game. Set. Match. Stewards.

Also stewards would have to give HAM and RUS the same penalty or the other teams would complain.
HAM drove the whole race nearly, RUS a few laps and LEC one lap with their "damage"...none really caused problems to others or left bits of car on the track.

Maybe LEC had some previous track limit violations and his last lap blew his free passes???

The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 16 (Charles Leclerc), team representative and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, team radio and in-car video evidence.

Car 16 spun on the last lap at turn 3 and hit the wall but continued on track. The driver informed us that the car appeared fine save that the car would not negotiate the right hand corners properly.

Given this problem, he was forced to cut chicanes on the way to the chequered flag. We determined that the fact that he had to cut the chicanes (i.e. to leave the track) meant that he gained a lasting advantage by leaving the track in that manner. The fact that he had a mechanical issue of some sort did not amount to a justifiable reason.

We accordingly impose a Drive Through penalty on Car 16, given the number of times the car left the track and gained an advantage.

We also considered whether there was an additional breach in continuing to drive a car with an obvious and discernible mechanical issue. We determined that there was no evidence of there being an obvious of discernible mechanical issue. We therefore took no further action in relation to that potential infringement.
