2020 Travel Plans

Well I've just read this incredible thread from start to right now. And I must say - it is a poignant reflection of the year in general. So much enthusiasm this time last year! So many amazing travel plans - I didn't see one itinerary that I did not want to be a stowaway on!

How sad it was to see this lively and engaging conversation perform a slow but complete 180 degrees. I realize that 2020 has stolen from us in different ways, and that each of us will bear some scar from the fallout. My year has not been the best, however I could not help but witness the amazing spirit and composure that you all possess. Some of you still have your sense of humor and that is a joy to see. There is an air of camaraderie here that, not even COVID19 can overcome.

I sincerely hope that all those magnificent dream trips come true for every single one of you.

I'm not sure how to start a thread - many people more experienced than I on FF. What about one where we can write about one or two memorable experiences on our travels? EG one of mine was in Paris, we'd rented a little apartment near Saint Suplice, with a music/theatre/dance school at the end of our little street. Went to a bar underneath one night for dinner, with a band playing, American vocalist singing lots of Van Morrison, & many students dancing swing. Good looking young men, gorgeous girls, as the French are. They were swirling and jumping & it was just marvellous to watch especially since since MrMac & I both have 2 left feet. We elbowed the bar with a glass ior two of champagne. A real highlight

Currently thinking about Christmas 2021. Obviously too early to book. Anything before then (if even possible) is likely to be a last minute booking.

I also feel quite lucky that I managed to get a decent holiday at the beginning of this year so I did have a 2020 holiday :D

So did I and I did a lot of things in 2019 but I'm still itching to do something different at the moment

Darwin this weekend for the footy, that’s about as exotic as I’m going to get this year by the sounds of it

Two main destinations: Iceland and Rwanda/ Tanzania. :)
Noticed this old thread :( Apart from the cancellation of the above 2 trips :( :(, I don't think I will even step onboard a plane in 2020! And I have averaged 5-6 OS trips per year for the last 15 years or so.....

I was just thinking today that I am ready to make a speculative booking for 2021. However won't be involving purchasing any cash flights based on the experiences I've witnessed on this board. Accommodation will be done late in the game and will be done with big chains in the hope it minimizes potential losses.

Well I'm pretty sure that my QF award seats (for daughter and her wife) and paid tickets for me and Mr Seat 0A to Japan in Jan 2021 won't go ahead. As soon as I can, I will look to book the same trip for Jan 2022. I'll be trying for award seats for us all though as I too am scarred by the QF "refund" process.

I’m not planning for 2021, let alone 2022. Too many unknowns.

I’ll be surprised if a December 2020 trip on the Great Southern from BNE to ADL goes ahead. This would be instead of the 2 weeks in Europe I was going to spend in May as respite after the end of the husband’s chemotherapy.
