I’m doing very little this year, and not because of Covid19.
Aside from a week R&R in Lombok later in the year a weekend in NZ for my year group 50 year on reunion in AKL.
Otherwise just a couple of short breaks in ADL and SYD

As I'm living in Tokyo now most of our family trips (Seoul, Taipei, Shanhai, Beijing) have been canned due to virus issues. We are looking at the trans-mongolian train also. I will be flying to South Africa every 3 weeks for work though so I'll still be able to tick off some countries.

If you do end up going on the Trans-Mongolian train would you consider do a TR. I was planning on doing Chengdu to Tibet (edit: by train) in late May this year but the timing did not work out and nothing to do with the virus. I am more of a train geek than a plane geek and a Trans-Mongolian or Trans-Siberian train journey is high on my bucket list.

Consider it done mate, I'll let you know if and when we book.

I was planning for Singapore and Indonesia (Sulawesi and Halmahera) for late May early June.

Nothing is booked yet except a cheapie hotel in Manado using a QF birthday $30 hotel voucher. SIngapore seems to be handling the virus issue well and the parts of INdonesia we would be going to are remote (bird watching) with a few days in Bali at the end for R&R, day spa pampering.

I am worried about the cancellations on SIN routes. Also worried about being trapped in a 14 day quarantine event. Before I commit to bookings I want at least the quarantine thing to be off the table so we don't have delays or life disruptions.

How much things change! Our trip to New Caledonia got axed a few months ago (prior to coronavirus) as we decided that we didn't think we would enjoy it. Looks like it will only be domestic escapes for the next little while, so possibly Cairns in the mid year school holidays. We have also locked in a few ski trips to Falls Creek and we will end our year in the USA based on current bookings.

Only booked Fiji for March. Hotels still TBA, leaning towards the Hilton Denarau.

Any other family friendly options with a 3yo which are relaxing?
Stuck to our plans. Got back home yesterday.

Should've extended the trip with the way things are here currently 😛

Ended up staying at Hilton, loved it.
A week just disappeared. Our son didn't want to come back home

Edit: next is work trip in end May to Singapore, HK and Taiwan. Then Paris/Milan/Munich in July... Let's see what happens with those

Updated: New items in BOLD

We have booked an Easter break for 2020.

Booked some flights: SYD-HKG (QF 127 award) in Y, HKG-LHR-KRK and LHR-HKG (BA 32/872/31) in J, HKG-SYD (CX101 Award) in Y+.

Booked: KRK-MUC (LH in J) for 2 nights in Munich.

Booked: MUC-ATH (LH/A3 codeshare in J) ahead of cruise.

Booked cruise from Athens to Cairo, Jerusalem, Limassol, Rhodes, Kusadasi (Ephesus) and back to Athens.

Booked: ATH-MUC-LHR (LH in J) after cruise.

So two weeks in Poland, Germany and the Aegean, 2.5 weeks in UK.

Now looking at adding a Christmas Day 2020 departure to the UK to spend boxing Day and the following few weeks with the other half of our family. Nothing booked yet, but the spreadsheet has been created! :)
Well the Easter trip is dead in the water - cruise cancelled, just about everything else cancelled apart from BA flights (will no doubt have a long wait on the phone on Monday when their lines open).

Focussing on the Christmas trip to UK now.

Easter show trip gone.
fairly likely the Chelsea Flower show will be cancelled in the next few days so the UK out.
Haven't declared May in Japan and Singapore dead yet but not looking good.
Slightly related - Have you noticed your locum work shrinking as doctors cancel their own holidays/

Actually more positions available.I think because a few of us older locums are thinking twice about doing them.

Europlate conference in Barcelona cancelled, I dare say the German meeting at Nummernschild Museum Großolbersdorf at the end of May will be gone also.

Heard from our friends that run Rally Travels that they will probably cancel their Portuguese and Sardinian tours in May and June.

I had been fairly confident about our August/September trip to Germany but even that is beginning to look a bit dicey.

Singapore - April easter holidays - now out due to the 14 day ban - waiting on accor to see if we can get cancellation back otherwise they will only allow us to move the date to sometime before december 2020.. and as you can see below we are booked out. can cancel points flight as there is more then a 12 hr flight change wait on this one.

Auckland - Anzac day weekend - looks like its out - it was a QF business double SC status run for Mr Mistress to retain Platinum. This is now not going to happen. He is now reconsidering a lot of his local work travel as he is not going to come any where near to retain Plat status, he may as well reroute and push stuff now.

May long weekend - to sydney - will move this to September
End of May show holiday weekend (for me) to Christchurch - waiting - most likely get jetstar credit
Mid June - Auckland - Waiting most likely get jetstar credit
July school holidays trip 1 to Carins - still doing
Trip 2 to Hobart - QF have already changed Flights on this one. but still doing this at this stage.
September - Manilla - QF please don't cancel flights.
December - San Francisco. - atm scenario is being rerouted via syd/melb but wait and see as scheduling only to sept.

I did have enough flights booked to make Gold, but if flights get canned i am screwed at retaining status this year... and i just got to status!!!

For once it looks like I had the best timing ever.
Feb Japan & Taiwan trip done, got back home 3 weeks ago, no problems!
Now just waiting to see what's happening as my next Japan trip is Nov...

Maybe Cairns in July? undecided.

First overseas holiday in 7 years was going to be PER-NRT/KIX-HKG/HKG-PER departing April 11, returning April 27.

Cathay pulled the HKG - Japan flights for March but as of today are still flying in April.

The Do Not Travel announcement extinguished the Travel Insurance coverage I held, and so I reluctantly cancelled on Tuesday.

Side note: despite the website suggesting otherwise, getting a refund from Cathay is not proving easy - the "system" does not recognise my flights as being eligible for refund. And TID's website is not showing the policy I purchased in January against my user profile, so I'm having a tedious time making a claim for my accommodation through them.

Life was not meant to be easy.

Rightio, so the Tour de France bike tour thingie we're going on is now including spending our 20th anniversary in Helsinki! And probably shelving the New York plan, as I'm rather deficient in annual leave.
Need to work out some kind of family holiday in Dec/Jan.

TdF is still currently booked, but we'll see what happens in the next three months. Maybe we'll be in Brisvegas for our anniversary. If the TdF gets cancelled, I'll probably think about hitting the Vision Splendid Film Festival in Winton, assuming it goes ahead. Might even drive to it.

My conference in Seattle/Bellevue in May has been cancelled and is going to be virtual. Not sure what will happen with board meetings in the US this year. I certainly won't be getting to them until the restrictions are lifted.

Have booked Easter at Mooloolaba. Thinking about cancelling (have until end March) due to social distancing; or cancelling and re-booking through a TA.
