2019 Federal Election Discussion

I sat directly behind Bill Shorten on a MEL-SYD flight about six weeks ago. Bill put his feet up on the bulkhead for most of the flight. Don't vote for Bill.
You might have had more success if you said he waltzed through the Business cabin to go to the front toilet :)
He was in 1F, so didn't need to

Yes, much too tame. Can't you spice it up a bit. :p

Edit: Must admit that I'm hopeless with spicing things up. I once sat across and one row back from the Howards after his election loss. They were very goody two-shoes and perfect passengers. No way to spice that up. They got me. :)

It is almost amusing that each side is absolutely convinced that the other side is much more hateful than they are. I don’t know why hate has to come into it at all.

I've not declared my allegiance left or right as i don't believe this forum is the place to do it. But i dont like seeing things in bold like the word "rape" here when there so much unsupport data . Is there anything wrong with that? So News Corp and Fairfax not reporting it is therefore a conspiracy.

I understand that no one likes to see allegations presented as fact ... spare a thought for poor old Trump who is faced with them every hour of everyday.

Maybe some here need to look in a mirror as just face the facts.

Hatred and Hypocrisy seem to go hand in hand.

Sad, so very sad to see this stuff on AFF. And to BOLD it is always a classic to make sure its heard. Pointless to say anything else other than i thought i belonged to Australian Frequent Flyer, not some ideological right winged site. And before you have a go at me, I'm a coal miners son working in the minerals industry.

Propaganda finds its way into everything. It is what it is, and why should it be a surprise that AFF reflects what is happening in the broader community?. In fact given that so much of AFF is about relatively affluent pursuits, it's certainly no surprise to me that there are some fairly ideological right wingers around here.

Wouldn't it be nice that the pragmatic and moderates in both sides could put aside their petty differences to marginalise the extremes at either end of the political spectrum. If you reflect back on recent political history (and maybe I'm looking at the past with rose coloured glasses) but politics was a fairly civil affair and in my life, federally we had great prime ministers from Whitlam up to and including John Howard's first two terms. It's all been downhill since 2001 .... now it seems to me more so than ever about ideology than what is best for the population. Either that or I'm getting older and more cynical :p

Does anyone describe Trump as "poor old Trump" ? He gives just as good as he gets.

We are a day behind in California so it will be Friday night in California that many Australians will be voting. Enjoy the sausage sizzle and other hoopla on Saturday.
The only thing I cannot figure is just what support is going to UAP and I think the pollsters may have the numbers wrong by quite a bit. Then it becomes a question of who is losing votes to UAP if what I suspect actually happens.
Their massive advertising blitz may never occur again but who knows what the future holds.

I think pollsters have been wrong quite a bit over the last few years, so I agree.

"The only poll is on election day" or words to that effect.

Agree with you, and I suspect the internet giving a voice to any old nutcase has played a large part in this.

Is anyone actually voting on May 18? I live not far from an early voting centre and went there yesterday PM...and OMG the queues were unbelievable! I took one look and didn't even bother; I can wait until Saturday!

Yes, we'll be voting tomorrow, even though I work close to a pre-poll location. Will be delivering #DemocracyCakes to the election stall at our church in the morning, then helping up with packing up later on, so sometime in between we'll also vote. Even if I pre-voted, I'd be attending one or two cake stalls to find some goodies!!

(I'm trying to get #DemocracyCakes to trend, as a sweet tooth, I'm more interested in cake stalls - not bake stalls - than sausage sizzles!) :p

Nope they cannot claw back - it was their decision to payout early.

Yes they would be reqd to pay out again if Libs happen to stagger over the line.

And they do hold a reasonable book on all these exotic bets they lay.

FTR: Premature Reperation IMHO - so many unknowns to be played out with the involvement of the Clowns that QLD have inflicted apon us all.

I wonder if they paid out early on Hillary Clinton winning - wonder what that would have cost them in the end!

Do you know why they set such low maximum bets on individual seats - e.g. sometimes the maximum bet for a seat that it will allow is something like (and random) like $87.30, for other seats it will allow up to say $400.

Oh goodness these sexual assault allegations, conspiracy theory perhaps?

Although I can actually envisage a scenario where a fortress is in place now, but given that it is more difficult under the new ALP rules to change leaders, the power brokers are holding the allegations in their back pocket (or even orchestrated them in the first place) in case they need to bring him down from within. After all if he does win it would break all sorts of protocols if he served out the full term

Remember that Theo Theophanus, a Vic ALP Minister, was also accused of rape in the late 2000s and stood down from Cabinet to fight the charges. It was reported in the media but the LNP didn't use them against him, in the same way that we haven't seen the LNP raise these allegations against Shorten. What needs to be remembered is that Kathy Sheriff is an ex Labor member who says this happened at a Young ALP camp in the 80s, so she certainly wouldn't be ideologically motivated. Reports suggests that she would be a credible witness and, as others have noted, the rules have changed in Victoria which makes it easier to prosecute these types of cases.

I did wonder if Albanese/Plibersek/other leadership rivals might have a hand in this as well.

sounds like it's going to be close in house of reps. Shorten might have blown it. The senate ? Who knows ? Clive might be big winner

Glad it's almost over, here in Canberra the coalition has run one of the worst campaigns in memory, nothing new to offer, only constant criticism and negativity towards the the other side, guess if you can't come up with anything new, then just criticise the opposition.

Z has focused on advertising himself as "'your local senator", going on his voting patterns he is "his own senator'' and not at all representative of most of his constituents, but of course, as usual, ymmv.
