When 1/3 Australians own their own home and make sacrifices to do so
When 1/3 are currently making serious sacrifices to pay a mortgage

They are going to be insulted by the idea they ought “share more of their wealth” with those who are lazy and won’t make sacrifices and want easy money. They take the view there’s ample already in the pot for unfortunate people, who can’t work or can’t afford to buy a house Like $450 billion.

One of the points this morning was that Labor never really explained what they were going to do with the extra cash and the ordinary voter felt it was going to be “pissed up against the wall” wasteful spending. We have already racked up $380 billion of borrowings spent on exactly what ? We just don’t see what it’s been blown upon. We are already on too many open ended unlimited grand schemes that will bankrupt the nation unless reined in, if I tried that stunt in my household, I’d go bust.

Well it was the result I hoped not to see. Another three years of the same is a depressing thought; however, that's the way the country voted so that's what people want for the future, so not for me to complain.
Looks like your franking credits (and I have no problem with them being used to offset tax paid) and negatively geared properties will be safe. :)
Enjoy the glow of success.

exactly. Who was the idiot in charge of union/alp campaign ? What a stuff up. If alp had said nothing at all, they would have won easily. They couldn't help themselves. & Adani won it for lnp in Qld.

Nextly, there is some need to recalibrate who pays the taxes

Millionaires know you don’t earn income. It goes back to the days where they were zero taxed and business income was taxed at 49% and personal income tax 60%

Stop family trusts taking the rest of us for a ride and paying Sweet FA
Uplift capital gains tax (50% discount IS WAY TOO GENEROUS
Rein in cash economy
SUPER taxes ought settle at a higher level the $1.6 million transfer balance caps are biting but the what’s in or out of taxable income is still too generous. Tax-free super and a second tax-free taxable income threshold are definitely generous....... Age pension thresholds and how income is accounted for are better balanced and compulsory super is now 27yo so volume of recipients has flatlined as super is beginning to make the impact. Serious inroads to reducing age pension numbers will now begin.

A fair strong effort has seen corporate taxes boosted from $65 b to $100 b in just two years

So this Govt might be able to leverage these revenue raiders for the betterment of the Nation

I'm finding the left's analysis of yesterday's loss amusing. It's being painted as a negative campaign, and apparently now negative campaigns will be the norm (when were they not?)

A bit of introspection might help. Deeply unpopular and badly timed economic policies were two key issues here. There was an underestimation of how many people suspected that they were the ultimate targets of the ALP's incoming wealth redistribution scheme. For some, 4 or 5 decades feels a little too long to be defending their super nest egg from the next government. Everyone could see and feel a softening of economic conditions between when these policies were first conceived and the election, and yet no sign of moderation is seen. A tip for new players: a little less focus on the electorates wallets will go a long way. Increased taxation has ALWAYS been unpopular, and especially now as the west fights to hold on to business and capital when you have Asian and Middle East countries competing for business that is today much more portable than ever. A negative campaign did not derail good policy, it derailed ordinary policy at a bad time.

I am all for public services being funded appropriately but if Labor are proposing that the only way to achieve it is by increasing tax obligations (CGT discount, negative gearing, forward tax bracket creep and franked dividend credits) for a class of people rather than a broad-based tax increase or no tax increase at all (and a longer horizon), you're automatically alienating one segment of the population whilst signalling to others who may be current beneficiaries that they can't count on future policy protection for their assets and retirement savings.

Anna Chuka in Qld is now stuffed. Alp won't be able to have a cricket team at next state election. Lnp should pay for Bob Brown & his rent a crowd airfares to Qld.

Wonder what would have happened if some depressed farmer, starting taking pot shots at Brown & co with his very legal rifles ?

Warringah residents are now lucky to have a green member who want be able to get anything done in her electorate. A 1 time wonder. Good on you Getup(I mean alp/unions)

Wow. The election is over and still heaps of propaganda here with lots of gloating. This is the trouble with poltics - die hard supporters are have their blinkers on. At least our Politicians - win or lose - know how to show a bit of humility.

As a whole it probably not going to be any different under LNP than ALP - although some will definitely be better off now that LNP has hung on. I wonder though when the whole Ponzi scheme collapses, whether the country can continue to afford the amount of middle class welfare that it does.

The decision to rid the LNP of Turnbull was 100% correct - Dutton has been vindicated and rewarded with his 7th election victory in one of the most marginal seats in the country. That's impressive.

Malcom was effectively an ALP PM, and clearly not a very good one.

it's going to be tricky but have to work out a way for EXTREMELY dodgy companies like APple & Facebook to not send their profits to Singapore etc. Maybe lower company tax rates? Can't stop companies paying expenses overseas.

At present, Australia gets about 1% or less, of Apple, Facebook, Google profits.

She might be a one term member but it does show that Abbott had overstayed his welcome. Personally I was pleased to see him go as he continued to snipe and caused a lot of damage to his party.
I was also pleased to see Mundine did not succeed. Parachuting him in was not a good move.

confidence has returned already. No one in business trusted alp-unions to not stuff up the economy. Know a few business owners who were going to give it up, if alp-unions won last night. Now they might keep businesses going & still employ people.

Scomo thanked ABbott but didn't mention Turnbull. Abbot will be offered any job he wants now. Maybe Governor general ? Oh no, that's right, that job is going to Israel Folau.

Further tax act changes to allow the ATO to determine what is reasonable on royalty payments to tax havens would help. Some of this has already happened.
The black economy needs to be chased.

not up to the ATO . If a company has marketing arm overseas, it can pay them overseas, otherwise you'll be buying those very dodgy apple phones online only, with funds being processed overseas & showrooms will be just that, only showrooms.

No way the black economy will ever be shut down. Most of cash, never ever gets banked. If someone gives you a cash discount, he/she is usually going to use cash, when someone else offers he/she a cash discount.

Which one of you "true believes" woke up yesterday and decided to punt $850,000 on an ALP win.

Short of taxing companies on selling to your residents (which would get passed on in whole to consumers) it will be a very difficult proposition to convince a company that is operated from another geography and who chooses to process payments for services (which make up a huge amount of the market today alongside hard product) outside of your country to give you a cut of their revenue.

Then again, this government did introduce a GST on low-value overseas goods, and whilst it (as predicted) is not being collected by many online marketplaces, the eBays and Amazons of the world are enforcing it.
