Was on a recent PER-ASP flight and the gentleman near me drank 8 johnny walker small bottles.. he was pressing the call button almost constantly..:!:

Why doesn't she take responsibility for her actions? She tried to blame it on the alcohol plus medication... I'm glad she didn't get away with it!

12 month bond without a conviction recorded-she got away with it.Just as well i am not a magistrate.

I bet if she had have been middle eastern the penalty would have been much more

The penalty was a joke. I could imagine her in court, with "I did that.. no not me.. it was the wicked drink Sir"

At least a suspended sentence and an order not to drink on planes for 3 years.

The main thing is that a conviction was recorded. The woman in question may now find travel quite difficult, because even a 12-month suspended sentence would be considered very, very serious by number of nations, eg the USA. The fact that the offense took place on an aircraft may well decrease the likelihood of getting a visa even more.

Unfortunately she got a "12 month bond without conviction" so she is free to fly anywhere and doesn't have to acknowledge it on any visa application.
THAT IS WRONG

Agreed.

It is clearly wrong and stupid, but it will get back to her at some point in her life.

That Bronwyn Streader lady is a disgrace!!

The penalty is a small slap on her wrist.

And I hope all Australian airlines record her name on a 'unruly passenger deserving not to fly' list.

I see the bearded ladies with packets of gravel are out in force again!

Seeing as none of us were in the court to hear the full story and are relying upon the media to be balanced (!), it seems unwise to make absolute judgments about the justice of the penalty.

She was able to prove that she was suffering from some post-trauma stress from a serious assault, and also had credible witnesses attest to the episode being out of character. So the judge has basically given her a second chance (as I hope would happen with us all).

Also Qantas is not completely innocent of guilt. There are laws in Australia about serving alcohol to intoxicated persons, and I would be interested to know if they apply to airline travel. I suspect not, but surely Qantas would have it's own code of practice in this area and to serve that amount of alcohol is reckless. I think the judge would also have considered that when coming to his decision.

So whether Qantas/One World will blacklist her is up to them (and the legality of such action), but I think their main focus should be on prevention rather than cure.

Cheers,

Andrew

However, she was arrested and when using the visa waiver program to visit the USA one of the questions asked on the arrival card is "have you ever been arrested OR charged" so given the nature of her offence this might preclude her from using the VWP and might preclude her from obtaining a US visa.

Uh huh...

Anyhoo, of pretty much equal seriousness is that the cabin crew failed to remember their responsible service of alcohol training , and allowed a passenger to get totally pissed, and thence to act like a pissed idiot.

It is amazing what some people will do during a flight.

I know someone who had a couple champagnes and beer in the SYD First Class lounge before a flight, then on the BA SYD-SIN flight he had 7 x 50mL bottles vodka (over half a normal bottle of vodka). Then in SIN went out to Geylang for a meal and to a karaoke bar and had about a dozen beers finally going to sleep after 4:00am. I still don't know how I survived that day/night as most of my blood must have been had a very high concentration of alcohol....

Sounds like an ex girlfriend. Shame the picture doesn't match.

I also take back my earlier defence of her in another thread - she attacked the co-pilot!

Unfortunately she's interested in japan - don't think she'll be planning to go to the USA to have trouble getting a visa.

You need to change those last few entries... We had no idea who it was until you did that!:eek::rolleyes::D:mrgreen:

To be fair to the crew, they don't always know what the other crew have handed out. For example, on a recent mel-per flight, a chap near me had 9 beers. I know because I counted

He did this by asking different crew members as they were walking past his seat, so as far as each crew member thought he had only had a couple at most.

Such is life and I hope not to repeat the episode again any time soon... :(
