Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere:

Hilton are offering 20% off the purchase of points until Sept 3 2014.

Details here

Maximum 40,000 points for US$320 which is not bad if used in the right places.

Especially if needed for points and pay rates, which seem to me like often the best use of HH points.

Always wondered if you earn points on the cash portion of p+p rates? Is the stay treated as a normal stay as well in terms registering as a "stay"?

I think a P+P is the same as a reward night. No points, but does count as a stay

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Don't think it counts as a stay by the strict T+Cs, but would have to check again.

No points on the cash component, only on associated hotel spend (Incidentals, restaurant etc). You may get lucky, however.

Just reading the T+Cs again- reward stays do not count as a stay, and Points+pay is a category of reward stay further down the document.

This is consistent with my experience.

Also, by the strict T+Cs, if you have even a single reward night in a stay you are not meant to earn points on any of it but this has never happened to me.

Edit- as noted below, I was reading the part applicable to points as opposed to stay posting. Reward stays count to status but not points accrual.

Hmmm, I am sure that my P+P stays have counted as stays as far as maintaining status are concerned. Not arguing the T&Cs mind.

Edit: I have just checked my past stays, and a 4,000 points + $ stay at DT KUL has counted as a stay as far as requalling is concerned.

Am I just lucky?

No you are not lucky. Reward stays including points plus pay count as an eligible stay for attaining/ retaining status
"Members will not earn points or miles for Reward Stays or hotel stays redeemed with a Marketing Partner's discount/free certificate (e.g. frequent flyer award or travel award), unless otherwise stated on the certificate. But if a Member is using Room Upgrade Rewards, any money spent on the original reservation will earn points consistent with these Terms. Members may earn points (not miles) for incidental charges at a hotel within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio during a Reward Stay, provided such charges are deemed eligible folio charges at Hilton®, Conrad® Hotels and Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton™, Embassy Suites®, Hilton Garden Inn®, Hilton Grand Vacations®, and the Waldorf Astoria hotels. Members will not earn points for incidental charges during a Reward Stay at a Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites®, Home2 Suites by Hilton® or Homewood Suites by Hilton® hotel. Members will not earn points for incidental charges during hotel stays redeemed with a Marketing Partner's discount/free certificate unless otherwise stated on the certificate. For purposes of counting stays and nights for Elite tier qualification (as explained below), Reward Stays will count towards the number of overall stays and nights."

FWIW, Diamonds do get the 1000 point bonus along with the stay/night credit but that's generally it.

Apologies, this has changed in the last few years and I obviously didn't read far enough down the T+Cs...

And obviously as no points would actually mean no base points, the cash component would not help requal on base points, which is possibly the only "unfair" part of the deal.

Just to make sure, these points do not count towards base points right?

Does purchasing points count as account activity?

Yes it does AFAIK
Members who do not have eligible activity as defined in a. - d. below in any 12 consecutive month period may be removed from the Program and are subject to forfeiture of all accumulated points. At the discretion of Hilton HHonors Worldwide, such Members may be permitted to remain in the Program and removed after five years of inactivity. To keep accumulated HHonors Points, the Member must take one of the following actions within a 12 consecutive month period:
a. stay at a hotel within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio pursuant to the terms herein;
b. earn HHonors Points through any third party source of HHonors Point accumulation, including a Hilton co-branded credit card, pursuant to its terms;
c. purchase HHonors Points; or,
d. donate points through The Hilton HHonors Giving Back Program.

Thanks. As always my laziness to not check the T&Cs has me asking basic questions.
