Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and how it works outside of meal service etc.

My main question is can the Y pax come and sit on the otterman and may cards/chat/whatever with the pax in F?

Highly unlikely that they will let them beyond the curtain!!

Had a QF flight NRT-PER in January at the end of a RTW Award in J with my partner, but only 1 J available that leg. Plenty of space in J on board (including the seat next to my partner), but we weren't allowed to use the empty seat. I wish you better luck.

What makes that even worse is the 9 hours you endured on a 763:shock:

Did a BA flight in F last month... the missus was in y+. Asked if we could dine together (F was only 20% full) but was declined.

You can always try... who knows you could get lucky

On QF, the best approach may be to speak with the CSM and ask if you can both sit in J (assuming that J is fairly empty). They could always bring a J passenger up to F to take your spot.

I wouldn't attempt request unless the F passenger is a Platinum or Chairmans lounge member.

Part of the problem with an additional person in F is catering/

I would hope that they would decline the request and not offer free upgrades.

If wanting to catch up with people in a lower cabin, then on most non-US carriers it is quite ok to stroll back from 1st to economy and meet up there

As previously, you can visit downwards, not upwards.

Case in pint:

Me: Row 68; fatherdoc: row 1. :evil::mrgreen:

Well, at least he brought me back some ice-cream! :):):)

He's not asking for an upgrade or catering - he just wants someone to visit and play cards with him, making use of only his seat.

I really can't see an issue, unless they start disturbing other pax. (However the same applies if it were two F pax stuffing around)

If Y is moderately full, I'd say it would be hard to find enough space for 2 people to sit together, especially on a long haul where people will spread out.

My advice... Walk back and get them. I doubt you'll be queried. I usually fly casually dressed, and have been queried once or twice while entering J from Y after a walkabout and they're usually happy with a quick "i'm returning to my seat". For you, that will be the truth :)

Maybe for 5 minutes, but doubtful. There is no seat belt on the ottoman and guests are generally not allowed in the first cabin. It would be unfair to other passengers.

I think that is bad advice and is going to end up with the Y passenger being sent back. The F cabin flight attendants will know the person sitting there is not an F passenger. They only have 14 seats to service and by the time the doors are closed and the aircraft pushed back they will already have seen everyone enough times to know there is a ring-in in the F cabin.

While you may manage to get them into the cabin, they will certainly be sent back as soon as noticed by an F cabin FA.

Whether you see it as an upgrade or not does not matter. It is against Qantas' policy to allow visits to the F cabin from passengers from Business or Economy. There are signs that state "Business Class Passengers only beyond this point" and "First Class Passengers only beyond this point".

Moving up from economy to 1st is an upgrade ; if wanting someone to play cards with, then go down and visit them in economy and if they have a spare seat can sit there and play

I can't see he has anything to lose by trying, assuming the whole interaction with the crew stays polite and respectful.

I would not put a friend into the potentially embarrassing situation of being told to leave the F cabin, especially knowing that is going to happen. I would not do it as I do not consider myself an exception to the rules, especially one that is clearly signed inside the aircraft. I know if I was the Y passenger in that situation, I would be extremely embarrassed by the situation.

If you want to ask first, then by all means do so. There are no rules against asking for something. But to invite an economy passenger into the F cabin without permission from the CSD and knowing its against the airlines rules is beyond what I consider reasonable.

By the same token, I would take it that it would be ok for an economy passenger seeing that there is an empty seat in 1st or business to just self-upgrade himself to that seat just before takeoff on the "no harm in trying" mantra

I am sure I have seen seatbelts on the ottoman before. I just cant remember if it was CX F (New), QF F (Old) or BA J (Old). That is what sparked my question. I have read sales guff in the past for F service that you can dine together at 1 seat. (Assuming you are both in F to start with.)

That is correct. Not using another seat. Sitting facing each other with the table out to play card. Minimal chat etc to avoid disturbing others.

That is what I always planed on doing. I just wanted to see if anyone had done it before.

I see both sides. The Yes and the No. In this case I am just hoping for Yes.
