2 new SPG properties in NSW

I can think of 203 locations in Australia I'd prefer new Starwood Hotels - but good to see new additions (even if one is an orient express castoff!)

Does anyone else find these 2 properties as SPG rather odd? For an international chain to not have a property in BNE with the demise of the planned Westin, the transfer of the Sheraton Perth to a Pan Pacific, and no property in Canberra, I fail to understand why they would pick the Blue Mountains?

My guess would be the major cities are already saturated with hotels (and various hotel chains) so there's really little point in securing new properties under the Starwood banner. Now that these two properties are secured, it would mean guests worldwide who are loyal/affiliated/knows the brand, can make a decision to stay there. Both hotels would pay Starwood fees and have to meet certain brand standards as moa999 says, however the benefits for them is that they now created a new pool of potential worldwide guests, members the SPG program.

has anyone stayed at either of the katoomba properties since the takeover
just wondering what platinum gets you there.
