Right now i would say QF are filling seats rather well with the sale ! guessing by how fast the seats are moving and only higher classes available, also the fact the seat maps are showing a number or pre-allocations and some already crossed the threshold and no longer viewable.

Anyway i also just booked with a girlfriend of mine 2 and half weeks back in Australia on the 2-for-1 deal :) SIN-MEL-SIN for SGD $1508 :D

I am almost sure you could not even beat $754 on even the LCC's return (except maybe Air Asia X free steats), and i get the pleasure of the F lounge both ways & 30kg luggage even in whY as a WP.)

Interestingly, back in February; I could have purchased SIN-MEL-SIN for ~SGD880; that was about AUD630 back then.

Yes i know, i used to get the same prices... but thats life, they added lots of taxes and also the currently has hurt a lot.
Still right now i am not complaining, my travel partner also had to book SIN-ICN-SIN and it just cost $1150 and that was the cheapest of Korean Air, SQ and Asiana were even more.

Interestingly, the sale wasn't similarly extended ex-Europe. Someone on a UK-based forum missed out as she saw the extension on the Oz site, thought it applied ex-UK as well and hence left it till it's too late. Ouch...

Too bad too sad that these discounted 2 for 1 fares couldn't be used for one way purchases :(

I'm annoyed also that I won't be able to take advantage of this offer. Hopefully it will come up again.

This is going to hurt! Isn't the sale over yet? Please....

I would be interested to know if anyone thinks there may be further similar specials down the track, considering the state of the world economies.

We are wanting to visit our daughter next May who is working on the cruise ships - she THINKS she will be sailing out of the USA or around those parts but of course until her contract is renewed she can't be sure! So we would be taking a big punt by booking the tickets now. There are still quite a few seats left for the dates we would need to the USA using the special 2 for 1 - am in a dilemma as to what to do.

What does everyone else think??

eden62,

I would not be surprised if, and I hope there are more but who really knows. The logic patterns for these sales are outside most peoples understanding.

These things are often driven by the state of forward bookings that the airlines are seeing. Given recent Qantas and other airline murmurings, it does appears that sales going forward have fallen off a bit. So the sales may come and go, but they may not be at times that suit you.

If the economy gets into a really bad state, look for more capacity reductions rather than sales.

I was really disappointed with the sale only being return. Mum and I could have got over to FRA to see my new Nephew in March. But I couldn't afford the 3 weeks that she wanted to be there. A one way option would have suited us and would have got QF more cash because we would have paid normal price to return.

But my point and the silver lining is that the sale fares are not upgradable, whereas whatever fare mum gets will be upgradable. Given how popular the sale was I'm guessing she'll have a better chance to get an upgrade.

If current consumer spending is any indication then we will certainly see reductions.
