First ever post so apologies if I am a bit long winded.
I am wondering if anyone has had the same experience with the 2 for 1 flights with the Virgin Flyer Credit Card that I have had . On 18 February I called to make a 2 for 1 booking with your call centre from Newcastle to Brisbane return in March. I checked on the website before booking and the Saver Lite fare was $61.50 as these flights were on sale. I was willing to book Saver so that I could take some luggage with me but the sales consultant convinced me to buy Saver Lite as due to my Gold Velocity membership I could bring a bag with me in any case. I agreed with him and when he told me the total sum for the booking (which I note did not include the 2 x $7.70 booking fee – why 2 booking fees if 2 flights for 1?)I did not think to divide the total amount by two to confirm the individual price of the flights. Since then I have checked my invoice and the cost of each flight is noted to be $89. I was a bit surprised by this so I checked the price on the VA website. As the sale had ended the price was indicated to be $77.30 for each flight as Saver Lite, which is still less than the price I paid. On 27 February I called the VA customer contact centre to see if an error had been made or whether I had been inadvertently charged extra for making the booking through the call centre when I had no choice as these bookings cannot be made online. After lengthy discussions with a girl from the call centre (and a few discussions she had with her supervisor) I was informed that there are in fact 3 levels of Saver Lite fare and that when you make a 2 for 1 booking you are not offered the sale fare but the “M” class fare. The girl acknowledged that these three fares are not the Virgin website but are for internal purposes only but could do nothing and instead apologised multiple times for what had happened.
At no stage during my conversation with the sales consultant on 18 February 2013 was I informed that there were 3 such fares. In any case, is it not misleading to have one fare advertised on the VA website as Saver Lite yet charge another without informing the customer? Further, this makes a mockery of the claim that the fare paid is 2 for 1. Maybe 2 for 1.5 would be more appropriate?
I am a loyal Virgin flyer but incidents like these are starting to make me question whether that loyalty is misplaced. I am also troubled by what I had rad on the forums about the problems since the changes to Sabre. I acknowledge that I should have done my sums when making the booking, but the sales consultant, VA website and the T&Cs for the Virgin Flyer card should all indicate that there is more than 1 Saver Lite fare (and possibly more than 1 Saver and Flexi fare?) and that the 2 for 1 offer will not necessarily be for the advertised fare. I have posted this with the Guest Realtions but don't expect a response as they never responded the last time I had a complaint. I am also trying to put it on the VA facebook page without success. Has anyone else had a similar experience or should I just get back in my box and do my maths the next time?

This is from the T & C.

Seat availability and fare prices advertised on the Virgin Australia website are not indicative of the
seats and fare prices available for this offer. Seat availability and fare prices available as part of this
offer are managed separately by the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre.

There is a fairly long thread about this issue (sorry no link). What you describe matches the experience of a few other people who also ended up paying more when using the 2-for-1.

My personal view is that this probably falls under misleading advertising laws somewhere... but so far VA seem to be ignorant of the problem.

I'm sending you the detail of some people from The Office of the CEO who can deal with these kind of complaints - Hopefully they can help you ;)

Agree that the T+C's do mention this, but paying a higher price for a 2-for-1 then buying 2x tickets from the website is misleading and probably false advertising.

In addition to the terms and conditions clearly saying the website price is not indicative, they also say that sale fares are not eligible. So you could not get the cheapest advertised fare regardless. I'm not sure why you didn't get the next fare level up. Without asking when booking it's a bit hard to speculate. I also had a similar experience of having the price slightly higher than expected on one leg. Turns out my fares were also M, and I think we worked out that the alternative was considered a sale fare. So it would seem that M is the lowest non-sale fare. Anyway, here is my report in the other thread, might be worth a read of the whole thread. #147

On the card fee, it is per person per booking, that's why $7.70x2.

Fare classes are pretty well advertise in terms of earning points and they are now shown when booking. Check the earning tables and you will see there are a large number of fare classess. Points Earn with Airline Partners | Velocity Frequent Flyer

Finally, as per below you did get two41 fares.

Actually that's not correct. The OP did get 2 fares for 1, they got 2 "M" fares for the price of 1. Just that they weren't the fares expected.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

dena7056, firstly welcome to AFF. There is lots of good info here.

Secondly, the previous posts are all correct. Many of us have felt your annoyance, it probably is not technically a breach of advertising policies and yes, it sucks. VA are fooling themselves if they think they can continue to hide behind a) T&Cs and b) blaming Virgin Money when regardless of fact, we mostly assume the relationship is incestuous.

I'm still tending to blame a lot on the appalling implementation of a far from ready booking system and part the reasons I have for that are my experiences of swings and BIG roundabouts. The fact the prices charged do not match the web advertised prices can (and does ;)) work in reverse to your experience.

For me the real issue is the person on the phone didn't clearly spell out the implication of the T&Cs before the purchase was finalised. A little bit of plain English common sense "this is the price, are you sure you want to go ahead with it?" would probably have considerably have reduced the frustration.

Thanks everyone for your responses and insight. I managed to post my compaint onto the VA Facebook page and also sent it through the complaints process. To my delight (and surprise) I got a response today. It quoted the relevant T&Cs (VA and VIrgin Money) but also noted that the sales consultant should have told me the terms of the fare. Apologies were made and as a "goodwill gesture" VA have put $100 in the VA Travel Bank for me (must found out what that actually means. Good outcome in that I got a response (which I have no doubt is due to having put it on FB) but the issue remains and I still think that VA have an obligation to put this information clearly out there for everyone to see (both the 3 types of fares and the fact that 2 for 1 only applies to certain fares, plus to tell you what those fares are when you make a booking). I think I will also raise it with Virgin Money as it appears that they are getting the blame for something that was changed by VA.

I should complain more...
