Hi guys, Im flying Mel to Syd next friday night and its my first business class flight , Im after a little advice so I can avoid any silly mistakes, if there are any , basically things that regular business class guys see and 'tut' :) , obviously this is light hearted too , but any great advise will definitely be observed !
Should I get to lounge very early? how many drinks is too many? can i settle in next to the champagne and pour away , should I expect drinks even though its only an hour ish flight ?
so many questions , mostly booze based ! helppp!

Granted I don't know if OP's seat is paid or upgrade, but for sometimes once in a blue moon sort of occurrence, why not enjoy it with the masses, the MEL QFd lounge I mean.
I certainly would for my next MEL QFd trip.
Inspect every nook and cranny of the (at that time of week and time of day) crowded lounge!

Just an upgrade. I got a lounge pass on my last flight and while I enjoyed being away from the masses it wasnt the opulent haven of luxury that my minds eye had created for me. Im guessing that the business lounge will have a similar effect :) Im still looking forward to it though.
Then its on to the Amex lounge Saturday night for a nice view of the Vivid lights.

Depending how long ago that you visited the QP in MEL. Both of the lounges have been spruced-up recently.

If you are in an aisle seat it is your duty to stop (forcibly if required) any Y passenger attempting to use the forward toilets. "Go to the back, scum!" is the appropriate response.

Or have a theme day and do it Star Wars style "Go to the back, Rebel Scum!"?

It is irrelevant if it's an upgrade or an award ticket. OP can use the J (Business) lounge.. ie: turn left when you get to the top of the escalaor at MEL.

Yes. Not too impressed with the QP. Maybe OP can suffer the J Lounge on this trip.

I'm more of a Lord of the Rings person and require you to respond Gandalf style, 'you shall not pass!' You are also required to stand up and stamp your staff on the cabin floor!

Also, look smug as the pax in Y walk past you :)

I think you're very likely to be disappointed with J on that route.

I'd be at the lounge 2 hours before. 12 drinks. You should be sobber by the time you arrive in Sydney.

Agree (seriously) MEL-SYD on QF, likely on a 737, is really not much to write home about tbh. It's a 1h flight with wel.. a "meal" or refrrshment, and you'd be better off at the spice bar in the J lounge in most cases IMO. I mean.. it's a shuttle with not much time for too much. Enjoy it, but don't expect a whole lot. A bigger seat than Y, obviously more fwd.. pre dept water in glass, and the like, but honestly it's a good idea to keep expectation low then be surprised a bit than expect like Emirates First and find out you're actually on Jetstar :0

Unless you're sitting in the last row of J, I'd suggest checking their boarding pass or at least ask for their seat number in case they are also J passengers
