Pattinson to Amla, 1 no ball, bowled him! But umpire Rauf is checking if Pattinson had over-stepped. He has! It's a no-ball. Amla bowled off a no-ball. It was full and fast in the blockhole just outside off stump, Amla tried to squeeze it out but got an inside edge on to his stumps. Australia's joy is short lived. That's four wickets off no-balls in this Test. Two to each team.

No happy - that is just the basics

Afraid this sort of stuff makes me want to stop watching cricket! I'm not familiar with the details of the old 'back-foot' no-ball rule but Richie has been banging on for 30 years about how they should bring it back in, so that's good enough for me.

Yahoo :D...we got Smith:

20.5
Pattinson to Smith, OUT, caught at gully, and look at Pattinson go! Smith drives hard at a fuller ball outside off stump and gets a thick outside edge that flies low and to Quiney's right, he takes his second good catch of the match. Pattinson's won his battle with slip
GC Smith c Quiney b Pattinson 23 (67b 3x4 0x6) SR: 34.32

Now to mop them up ;)

Front-foot rule says that part of the bowlers foot (shoe) needs to be clearly shown behind the line at the point of foot impact with the ground - on the line is not sufficient. The foot can slide forward in the act of bowling the ball.

Thankfully not, with this appeal:

26.5
Siddle to Kallis, no run, another loud appeal for a caught behind and Wade flings the ball in the air in celebration. Asad Rauf says not out. Australia have no reviews left. Siddle bowled a supremely directed short ball and Kallis swayed his head out of the way. He did not drop his wrists though and the ball was very close to the glove. I'll have to wait for replays. Once again Hot Spot shows nothing on the glove.

The last two decisions by Asad Rauf have been spot on ,who would want to be an umpire very difficult job these days.

Another one bites the dust:

32.5
Siddle to Amla, OUT, caught at short cover! Siddle bowls a length ball outside off, Amla leans forward to drive and hits it straight to Hussey, who catches it at knee height, a loose shot really
HM Amla c Hussey b Siddle 38 (82b 3x4 1x6) SR: 46.34

Notice that Kallis gave it to Lyon in the last over and almost collected Billy Bowden on the last ball (not such a good idea) :

31.6
Lyon to Kallis, FOUR, and again, Kallis steps out and lofts over Lyon's head, hits it flatter this time for four, forcing umpire Bowden to duck and fall to the ground
31.5
Lyon to Kallis, SIX, Kallis comes out of his crease, gets to the pitch of the ball and lofts with a straight bat right over the bowler's head. The ball crashes into the ad boards beyond the boundary
31.4
Lyon to Kallis, no run, Kallis moves forward and pushes towards mid-on, Hussey is in the circle now
31.3
Lyon to Amla, 1 run, Amla comes out of his crease again and drives to Hussey at long on
31.2
Lyon to Kallis, 3 runs, Kallis goes back and across and glances the ball past the man at leg slip
31.1
Lyon to Kallis, FOUR, tossed up on middle and leg, Kallis gets down on one knee and sweeps powerfully to the backward square leg boundary

Three hours to go?
No, 2.5 hours to go:

Hours of play (local time): 09:30am start, Lunch 12.00-12.40, Tea 14.40-15.00, Close 17.00

unless in the umpires opinion, a result could be obtained (ie. Aust could bowl out SA), then another 30 minutes is allowed IIRC.

I'm pretty sure that 15 overs need to be bowled in the last hour, unless both captains agree that a result is unlikely.

Tea has been taken:

2.40 pm South Africa trail by only one run and have six wickets in hand in their second innings. One 41-over session remains in the Test.

Can we do it? With Kallis and AB de Villiers there, SA have a chance (Kallis has 40 from 62 balls include 5 4's and a 6).

I'm pretty sure that 15 overs need to be bowled in the last hour, unless both captains agree that a result is unlikely.

This looks like the rule for tha last day's play:

On the last day of play, a minimum of 75 overs must be bowled before the last hour of play begins. If the time one hour before the scheduled end of play arrives without 75 overs having been bowled, the last hour of play does not begin until after 75 overs have been completed.
Once the last hour of play begins, a further 15 overs must be bowled. Play actually ends either:
  • one hour after the last hour begins, or
  • after 15 overs have been bowled from the time the last hour began,

So SA bowled 30.4 overs at us this morning (overnight was 121 overs, innings finished at 151.4), So far, we have bowled 38 to them in their second innings. So 69 in total (ignoring the 2 balls, rounding that over up) and no trouble of meeting the rule of 75 overs to be bowled by 4pm (local) - only 6 overs to go and an hour to do it.

With 41 left (acccording to cricinfo), tha means 110 overs in the day. Hmmm, should be an interesting finish

Indeed it is simongr :D

48.5
Lyon to Kallis, OUT, Lyon has a wicket, Clarke's taken a sharp catch at first slip! Kallis pushed forward to defend at one that slid across him from round the wicket and edged it. Clarke took the catch low to his right, near his boot
JH Kallis c Clarke b Lyon 49 (91b 5x4 1x6) SR: 53.84

Pity he didn't get his half century, but I'm here for the Aussie win.

Six wickets in an hour plus the Aussies batting to win? Unlikely I think.
