just want to share this.

I recently redeemed a star alliance business class ticket using only 190K krisflyer miles departing Dec 16 and returning Jan 17 on the following route :-

SYD-YVR-YYZ-LHR-SIN-SYD

basically it's treated as a Syd-Lhr redemption on star alliance award flying AC with stopover at Vancouver and Toronto and the return sector on SQ with stopover in Sin.

the rule for this redemption is 1 free stopover included and for the additional 2 stopover, I had to pay USD$100 per additional stopover.

total taxes and surcharges incl the additional stopover total approx. S$1700+

hope this information can help someone work something to their advantage by being able to fly to North America/Europe/Asia or vice versa which seem like a RTW trip to me.

Thank you for sharing.

Very interesting as the "official Singapore Airlines *A RTW is below. So yours looks to be a redemption that goes RTW at a cheaper points cost (and possibly slightly higher $ cost) with 3 stop-overs rather than the max the the actual RTW allows.

Also it looks like if it had been a North American award with a stopover on London instead that it would have cost 195K in points!

Star Alliance Round the World Awards

With Round The World Awards, you can travel around the world with the flexibility of multiple stopovers. Circle the globe and visit up to seven cities of your choice for just 180,000 KrisFlyer miles in Economy Class, 240,000 KrisFlyer miles in Business Class and 360,000 KrisFlyer miles in First Class.

There is a lack of rules on the official RTW award on the SQ site but on LH it states:

  • A maximum of ten flight segments (maximum of nine connecting flights) is allowed.
  • There must be an interval of at least ten days between the start of the first intercontinental flight and the start of the last intercontinental flight.
  • A Round the World Flight Award ticket remains valid for twelve months once issued.
  • A maximum of seven stopovers is allowed.

Are there maximum miles for such RTW itinerary?

35K it would seem.

With some googling here is the Krisflyer Programme Guide which includes redeeming *A thru Krisflyer.

This seems like excellent value...

I don't even know where to start though.. Do I log into krisflyer and try to book a flight? Or is this something I need to do through the call centre.

Can someone break this down for me please ?

You cannot do *A bookings online. Either call up (probably easiest) or lodge the booking form.

Has anyone else tried this? Is there much availability on Air Canada between SYD and YVR?

Would this itinerary now be much better value after the changes to YQ on award bookings?
