Just received an email from QF spruiking a 15% discount on the number of points required for certain Classic Awards, but only in whY.

I stopped reading at that point.

YMMV.

15% off selected Qantas & Jetstar Classic Award flights. Bad luck if you're in Perth

Just received this offer by email and couldn't wait to book flights.
Clicked straight through to the website at https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/memberSpecials/classic-award-sale-january15

If you're in Sydney you can fly to Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo (Narita), Los Angeles, Dallas Fort Worth, New York (JFK), Auckland, Santiago, Manila, Hamilton Island, Gold Coast, or Alice Springs.
If you're in Melbourne, then fly to Singapore, Los Angeles, New York (JFK), London (LHR), Auckland, or Alice Springs.
Even from Brisbane you can fly to Singapore, Los Angeles, New York (JFK), Auckland, Hamilton Island or Alice Springs.

From Perth - choose between Alice Springs and Auckland. Or Singapore if you're prepared to fly Jetstar, which I will not do.

There seems to be no end to the ways in which the scaling back of QI and the partnership with EK is screwing over frequent flyers from Perth.
Qantas really should changes it's slogan to "The Spirit of Sydney".

:(:mad::shock::evil::!:

That Jess the virtual assistant has her own airline now according to the email:

Between Sydney and Gold Coast with Jestar from 5,440 Qantas Points plus $27.58 in taxes, fees and carrier charges^

It does include ALL domestic flights, so they are hardly putting Perth folk at more of a disadvantage than present.

Such a shame Y redemptions are such poor value.

Could be worthwhile if you absolutely needed to take a peak golden triangle flight with no red e-deals left.

I find best value Y redemptions are usually QF link. In fact if you are ok with substituting other international carriers for J flights (instead of QF) it's not uncommon to see a better cents per point ratio on QF link Y flights than international J.

Guys I must be doing something wrong. As it turns out I was ready to book a CBR to MEL classif awards flights in Y, when I saw this email.
So I followed the instructions carefully, and its still coming up at 8000 points (not 6800). I went right to the end just prior to putting in the CC details, and still charging 8,000.
Anyone else having difficulty?

What dates? They are limited.

Sorry, didn't read the fine print :(

Qantas and Jetstar Classic Awards Australian domestic travel between 14 February 2015-27 March 2015, 27 April 2015 -26 June 2015, 13 July 2015 -18 September 2015.

Re: 15% off selected Qantas & Jetstar Classic Award flights. Bad luck if you're in Pe

I was going to book a domestic flight but classic award flights don't earn SC or points .
Am I correct in assuming it would not count as an "eligible flight" for the "minimum 4 eligible flight segments" needed to be able to advance to the next status level ? .

If this were Business classic awards then yes maybe, being economy awards not really interested. Oh how I miss ASA's...

You are right, no points, sc's or squiggles.

I too just received the email for the 15% of classic award flights in Economy for domestic & international sectors.

Certainly a classic award booking with this discount applied is good value on a golden triangle sector, as the cheapest red e-deal is rarely below $99 these days & most likely to be upwards of $149 booking within a month.

Good value on these type of short domestic sectors with generally very good classic award availability.

I do wish that QF would bring back another promotion to earn SC's on classic awards, even if a business classic award only earns at full economy earn rate....I buy in on quite a bit of those type of promotions when they are offered.

My year 10 maths teacher's favourite saying was "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread."

If you plan on taking advantage of this offer, please, please, please remember to select the 'Search Qantas and Partner Classic Awards' option. I've just booked 2 return flights & learnt the hard way in the assumption that Classic Award seats always appear on the flight selection page, & typically points would be refunded post-flight, similar to previous promotions.

Stupid, stupid, stupid!!! That's my punishment for attempting to book while half asleep here in Gothenburg, Sweden, where it's early morning. I shall console myself while on the Volvo Factory Tour later today.

I'll take this one for the team...

Flights for next Christmas would be good value. Except I can't find any seats.

[quote from the email]
Between Perth and Singapore with Jetstar from 17,000 Qantas Points plus $127.26 in taxes, fees and carrier charges

[end quote]

[/SUP]Given (against my judgement but in favor of the bank account balance) that my upcoming 3K flight PER-SIN (with plus
pack) within the offer period is only $154 more and about 19K points less (with free ~), calling the offer good value for points or money would be speculative. YMMV

Happy wandering

Fred

got the email and was spewing as I had booked an award flight just hours before. Then I booked on a day outside the promo period, so nothing lost :)

Wonder if its targeted, I received the email today also, only yesterday however I booked a MEL-PER Flexi and submitted an upgrade request. A better use of 10K points IMHO.
Pity they are not 15% off.

Such poor value IMO especially Asian flights.

EG. SYD-MNL 26500 POINTS + $296 in taxes each way or Red E deal $604 (+ points and SCs).

For folk with more points than sense.

Please be aware you must book ONE WAY flights only to get the discount
