15% bonus on credit card points transfers

There was an offer late last year but I never got around to transferring my mountain of CBA points. Now it's on again they are not included? Not happy.

Have got another load on another card to move though.

Whilst on the subject of "bonus offers", it will be interesting to see if Velocity match the current Qantas offer for double status credits for its members (albeit targeted members). I remember that they did this last year around this time.

Anyone know how often they have these promo's & whats the chances of Citibank being a " bonus partner " in the future ? .

Dagnabbit! No offer on my other card either! Sux...

Pretty sure both promotions last year were 15%, with Amex Premium getting a further bonus on top.

The 2011 promotion was 20%.
If you transferred over a certain number of points you got an additional bonus. This bit wasn't very well publicised though. I transferred points and found out after the fact that if I transferred a few more I would have got a whole lot more bonus.

The bonus offer declines every year. The first time they did it, it was a 50% bonus.

You actual stand to get far more points signing up a new card. Although, existing members cant do that of course.

Sadly I don't think they've ever included Diners in on these transfer bonuses. You'll just have to make do earning 3 points for every dollar you spend on your DC card

Very true... And 1.25 on the MC isn't too bad (especially since this accounts for 75% of spend anyway)

Too bad Singapore don't have a similar deal! Looks like ill just have to wash through SPG and be happy

Both IainF and Travel Guru alerted me to this new (2013) offer in telephone calls today, so time to transfer 25K Amex (28,750 VFF points) - goes over half way to paying for my Award redemption today

Yes I signed up for that. As a platinum charge card holder (Ascent Premium), if you transferred over 100,000 points, the bonus was 20% and you got 100 status credits. Very handy.:D

Close to none unfortunately. Not for the last 2 years from memory.
cba first time not that I can recall.

Westpac Altitude transfer to Velocity doesn't look too attractive to me except for flights. Check out the maths & note conversion given is 50% plus 15% bonus, so it nets out at 575 Velocity points for every 1,000 Altitude points.

Example 1 $100 Myer Gift Card. Velocity costs 13,500 points and I would need to convert 23,480 Altitude points to gain this number of points. Altitude offers this reward for 16,950 points, so conversion makes you 40% worse off.

Example 2 iPod 16GB. Velocity costs 25,000 points and I would need to convert 42,500 Altitude points to gain this number of points. Altitude offers this reward for 40,575 points, so conversion makes you 5% worse off.

Example 3 GoPro Hero 3. Velocity costs 63,000 points and I would need to convert 107,100 Altitude points to gain this number of points. Altitude offers this reward for 68,100 points, so conversion makes you 58% worse off.

Example 4 Reward Flight BNE/MEL. Velocity costs 13,000 points and I would need to convert 22,100 Altitude points to gain this number of points. Altitude offers this reward (same flight) for 36,750 plus tax points, so conversion makes you 40% better off.

You would need to do more analysis to check out my theory but unless you use your points for flight you are better off not converting your points.

Agreed, I would send my points, for non flight arrangements from Velocity to Altitude, too bad the bonus doesnt work the other way.

It would be good to see some flight analysis.

Why would you use your points for something other than a FF program?

Why would you use your points for something other than a FF program?

Based on the calculations, if you wanted tofly, leave and donvert points to Velocity, anything else, buy through Altitude.

I have bought gift cards via Altitude in the past, mostly to appease the Mrs for being away so often...however now stockpiling for an OS holiday, and praying not to get hit by another Ansett problem.

Other than that, points mostly used for upgrades when available.

I can confirm you theory without any extra analysis. You get very poor value using points to buy anything other than flights. That's not to say you shouldn't get what you want, but the just know the value is poor.

You might also like to check the price of a business award.

Burn rates/value of points is MUCH worse than converting to FF programs for award redemptions.
